Board to consider telecommunication tower variance at 1090 S Adams Central Ave
The Hastings Board of Adjustment will meet on September 17, 2026, at City Hall to conduct regular business. The primary item on the agenda is a variance request filed by Darren Hunter of Grinnell Group regarding height increases and setback decreases for a telecommunication tower.
- Variance request for height and setback adjustments for a telecommunication tower at 1090 S Adams Central Avenue, filed by Darren Hunter, Grinnell Group
zoningvariancetelecommunicationsplanning
✓ Decided: Hastings Board of Adjustment tables cell tower variance request 5-0
The Board of Adjustment voted 5-0 to table a variance request from Darren Hunter of Grinnell Group for a 155-foot telecommunications tower at 1090 S Adams Central Avenue. The applicant asked that the item be removed from the agenda, and the Board opened a public hearing where James and Patricia Pratt of Juniata raised concerns about the tower's fall zone and their property. Staff recommended denial because the proposal exceeds the 120-foot height limit and does not meet the one-to-one setback requirement; the matter will return when the applicant is ready to present.
- Tabled variance request for a 155-foot cell tower at 1090 S Adams Central Avenue (5-0)
- Adopted the September 17, 2026 agenda (5-0)
- Approved minutes of the August 27, 2026 meeting (5-0)

✓ Decided: Council reviews proposed FY2026-27 budget with utility rate hikes
The City Council held a worksession to review the proposed 2026-2027 City and Utility Department budgets, with no formal votes taken.
