Commissioners vote on interlocal detention agreement and school budget

The Broadwater County Commissioners will decide on an interlocal agreement with Lewis and Clark County for adult detention services and review the Townsend K12 School District's FY27 budget. The body will also vote on preliminary plat approval for the Western Montana Estates minor subdivision and a subdivision exemption application. Additionally, the Commission will appoint special deputy county attorneys to assist with criminal prosecutions.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS BROADWATER COUNTY, STATE OF MONTANA LOCATION: 416 Broadway, Townsend, MT 59644 DATE: July 29, 2026 Commissioner Debi Randolph called the meeting to order at 10:00 AM. Commissioners Lindsey Richtmyer and Jesse Swenson were also present. Public comment: Broadwater County Administrative Officer (CAO) Bill Jarocki commented regarding the budget. Commissioner Randolph commented that there is a small fire in Jefferson County in the Elkhorn Mountains. The Forest Service is aware of it, are monitoring the situation, and will keep the Commissioners updated. 10:11 AM Broadwater County Treasurer Melissa Franks presented Monthly report per MCA 7-6- 612. Commissioner Richtmyer commented on the amount of delinquent tax. Treasurer Franks commented that the deadline was missed to publish the delinquent tax notice in the paper. This means the Treasurer’s office will not be able to do the lien notices or assignments for the 2025 delinquencies. Next year the new Treasurer will be able to do 2025 and 2026 at the same time. Treasurer Franks commented that she is working on an alternative delinquent tax letter and has contacted other treasurers for direction on this. Commissioner Richtmyer commented. Treasurer Franks commented. Commissioner Randolph confirmed that a letter would go out regarding delinquent taxes and suggested talking with MACo about the language for that. Treasurer Franks confirmed that she would like to get the letters out in August. …
