Denied: a 10-foot fence at 522 East 8th Street (4-0) after hearing from both the applicant and an opposing neighbor.

Historic Preservation Commission

The Historic Preservation Commission will hold a public hearing on a Certificate of Appropriateness application for 507 Cleveland Avenue in the College Heights Historic District. The board will also approve the agenda and minutes from April 2026.

The Historic Preservation Commission approved its agenda and the minutes from the March 2026 meeting by common consent. The commission also approved Certificate of Appropriateness COA 846-26 for 507 Cleveland Ave in the College Heights Historic District, with a 4-0 vote. No opposition was recorded.

City Commission

The City Commission will review an ordinance to close portions of East 19th and 20th streets. The meeting also includes a proposed amendment to the Downtown Public Consumption Ordinance.

The Rome City Commission approved an ordinance amendment expanding downtown public alcohol consumption from Thursday-Saturday to seven days a week and adding portions of West 1st, West 2nd, and West 8th Avenue, including the Hampton Inn and Days Inn. The vote was 5-3, with Commissioners Robinson, Beeman, and McDaniel opposed. The commission also approved a street closing ordinance for the East 19th and 20th Street area (6-2) and made several committee appointments unanimously.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee will meet to review the 2026 Preliminary Tax Digest. The committee will also vote to approve the minutes from the June 10, 2026 meeting.

The committee reviewed four preliminary 2026 tax millage rate scenarios and the impact on City M&O, City Capital, and School M&O rates. They noted a 1.4% growth in the preliminary tax digest and discussed Tax Allocation Districts, including the dissolution of TAD2 and early payoff of TAD4. No formal action or vote was taken; further discussion will continue at the July 21 meeting.
