The Technical Coordinating Committee approved a motion to recommend that the MPO request approximately $200,000 in additional PL funds from GAMPO to complete a Regional Freight Plan. City Commission
The Rome City Commission will hold its first meeting of 2022, including the swearing in of new commissioners, election of a mayor and mayor pro tem, and appointment of a city manager. The Rome City Commission elected Commissioner Stevenson as Mayor and Commissioner Cochran as Mayor Pro Tem for 2022, reappointed Sammy Rich as City Manager, and approved all recommended city staff appointments. The commission also unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the City Attorney to settle PFAS water lawsuit claims against defendants with nominal liability. Several rezonings and a street closing were placed on first reading for a public hearing on January 24.

Land Bank Authority
The Rome-Floyd County Land Bank Authority is meeting to approve minutes, receive updates on properties including King Bee Circle and 326 Branham Ave, and discuss using American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds with the Center for Community Progress. The board will also enter executive session to consider purchasing three properties, including a Ga Power easement and two county-owned parcels.

Planning Commission
The Rome-Floyd Planning Commission will consider re-adopting the Unified Land Development Code for 2022 and several text amendments, including changes to road frontage, setbacks, townhouse placement, and billboard distances. They will also review multiple rezoning applications for properties in Rome and Floyd County, plus a special use permit request. The commission will make recommendations that will be acted on by the Rome City Commission and Floyd County Commission at public hearings later in January.

They also approved a text amendment allowing townhouses and duplexes along major roads, but failed to approve a text amendment for administrative variances on road frontage and side setbacks (4-4 tie). A billboard distance variance amendment was not heard. One rezoning at 100 McHenry Drive was denied.
