Board of Adjustments

The Board of Adjustments will hold public hearings on three variance requests to reduce front setbacks and lot width requirements for residential properties. The board will also vote on a new chairperson and vice chairperson for 2025. Minutes from the November meeting will be approved.

The Rome-Floyd Board of Adjustments approved all three variance requests on the agenda. The first reduced front setbacks on two parcels at 131 and 133 Chambers St. The second reduced the front setback at 10 S. City Commission

The Rome City Commission will consider resolutions to adopt 2025 water and sewer rates, the solid waste fee schedule, and a Georgia Mutual Aid Resources Pact. Second readings are scheduled for a Hotel/Motel Tax Ordinance amendment and the adoption of the 2025 city budgets. A public hearing will be held on proposed 2025 transit fare rates. The Rome City Commission approved a 5.5% water and sewer rate increase for both 2025 and 2026, despite one commissioner's opposition citing surplus funds and low debt. The commission also adopted the 2025 budgets, new solid waste fees, a mutual aid pact, and other resolutions. A public hearing on proposed transit fares was held, with a final vote scheduled for January 13, 2025.

Public Works / Traffic / Transit Committee

The Public Works, Traffic, and Transit committees will discuss and potentially recommend actions on 2025 solid waste collection fees, road paving projects, and several traffic control requests including 4-way stops. Fire Overview Committee

The Rome City Commission approved a $2 million tax incremental financing request for a Home2Suites hotel in the North Rome TAD, with a 5-2 vote (Mayor McDaniel voting yes). Land Bank Authority

The Rome/Floyd Land Bank Authority approved two purchase offers: one for 0 S Broad Street for $4,500 and one for 16 W Forest Street for $3,330. Finance Committee

The Finance Committee approved a motion to present changes to the purchasing policy to the full Commission. The changes would raise the purchase order threshold from $25 to $50 and the RFP threshold from $25,000 to $50,000. Alcohol Control Commission

The Rome City Commission will hold a public hearing on a request to rezone a property at Davis Street from Community Commercial to High Density Traditional Residential, with a planning commission recommendation of approval. Board of Adjustments

Planning Commission
