City Council approves school facilities agreement, radio system lease
The Whitesboro City Council took several actions at its Aug. 11 meeting, including approving an interlocal agreement with the school district for the Early Childhood Center and related infrastructure, and authorizing a lease-purchase for a new public safety radio system. The council also approved agreements for dispatch services and a state reporting system, and paid bills totaling $1,133,096.58.
City Council actions
At the Aug. 11 regular meeting, the council:
- Approved an interlocal school facilities agreement with Whitesboro ISD for the Early Childhood Center and related infrastructure.
- Authorized a lease-purchase for a new 800 MHz public safety radio system.
- Approved an interlocal agreement with Southmayd for dispatch and holding facility services.
- Approved an interlocal contract with the Texas Department of Public Safety for the conviction reporting system.
- Set the date for the September public hearing.
- Approved the consent agenda, including July minutes and bills payable.
- Approved bills payable totaling $1,133,096.58.
- Approved expenditures exceeding the administrator's authority of $0.00.
The meeting also included discussion-only items on the budget and proposed tax rate, but no action was taken on those items.
Other recent meetings
The Whitesboro Public Library Board met Aug. 10 to discuss a proposed book sale and receive an update on building improvements. The meeting included a public comment period with a three-minute limit per speaker. Minutes have not yet been published.
A special called City Council meeting was held Aug. 19 to consider a payment request of $241,005.50 to Landmark Structures, review the proposed FY 2026-2027 budget, and consider the proposed property tax rate for 2026. The agenda also included a budget workshop and possible executive session. No minutes have been published yet.
The Whitesboro Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO) also met Aug. 19 to discuss the proposed FY 2026/2027 budget and enter executive session on real property acquisition and economic development negotiations with a business prospect. Possible action was listed on the agenda, but minutes are not yet available.
Coming up
The Whitesboro Industrial & Economic Development Corporation (WIDCO/WEDCO) will hold a special meeting Aug. 26 to discuss and possibly amend the current FY25/26 budget, deliberate in executive session on real property acquisition and economic development negotiations, and consider the proposed FY26/27 budgets before submitting them to the City Council. Public comment is limited to three minutes per speaker, and the board cannot respond during that time.
