Town Board approves $222K water district land sale for open space
The Red Hook Town Board approved the sale of five surplus Water District parcels totaling about 8.55 acres for $222,000 and the use of up to $240,000 from the Community Preservation Fund to acquire them for open space preservation. The vote was 3-2, with Supervisor McKeon and Councilmembers Hamel and Testa in favor, and Councilmembers Dousharm and Migliorelli opposed.
Town Board actions
The board also approved a negative declaration under the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) by a 4-1 vote and closed the public hearing on the disposition and acquisition by a 5-0 vote.
Other actions taken unanimously (5-0) included:
- Declaring a 2005 Chevrolet Van surplus and authorizing its transfer to the Village of Red Hook for $1,500.
- Authorizing an online auction sale of a 2002 International Dump Truck as surplus.
- Authorizing the Town Clerk to advertise sealed bids for ice control abrasives, hot mix asphalt, and requests for proposals for 2027 materials.
- Accepting audit reports for the year ended Dec. 31, 2025, and the tax collection period for 2026.
- Approving a Town Hall solar panel reinstallation proposal.
Zoning Board of Appeals
The Zoning Board of Appeals held a meeting on Aug. 12. According to its agenda, the board was to hold a public hearing on an application for a 21,600-square-foot outdoor soccer field and a 7,200-square-foot outdoor pickleball court at 3974 Route 9G, which requires variances from fence height and setback rules. The board also was to review a proposal to convert a 1,050-square-foot home into a cottage at 425 Spring Lake Road, and an appeal regarding the classification of an aerodrome as an airport facility. Minutes have not yet been published.
Planning Board
The Planning Board met on Aug. 17. Its agenda included a continued public hearing for exterior improvements at Gross Bagels, 5084 Route 9G; a discussion of Rolin Fields exterior fields with lights and netting at 3974 Route 9G; a discussion of a two-lot minor subdivision at 8268 Albany Post Road; and a new presentation for an AT&T generator project at 33 Twin Towers Drive. Minutes have not yet been published.
Coming up
The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee will meet on Aug. 25 to discuss the timing, goals, and format of Workshop #3 and to review the draft Environment & Open Space section of the plan. The committee will also approve minutes from its June 23 and July 28 meetings and plan next steps, including a possible additional October meeting. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 22.
