Pelham council backs trash rate increase, subsidy removal for 2027

The Pelham City Council reached a consensus to remove the city's subsidy from the Trash Fund and raise the monthly rate effective Jan. 1, 2027, during an Aug. 12 work session. No formal vote was taken on the budget items.

Trash Fund and budget work sessions

At the Aug. 12 work session, council members agreed to remove the city subsidy from the Trash Fund and increase the monthly rate starting Jan. 1, 2027. The council also voted unanimously (5-0) to enter an executive session to discuss security plans, which lasted from 5:22 p.m. to 6:24 p.m. No formal votes were taken on the budget items.

Other boards

The Commercial Development Authority met Aug. 18 to approve minutes and a finance report, and to receive updates on properties it owns, including 1908 and 1910 Montgomery Highway, the Wellborn Property, and Fran's Property. The agenda was largely procedural.

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board met Aug. 19 to discuss the All Star Baseball process, a football investment update, an Art in the Park update, and a foundation update. The meeting included a public forum.

Coming up

The City Council will meet Aug. 25 to vote on the final plat for the 138-lot Silver Ridge subdivision (PH 1A and 2A) and to decide on bond releases and street acceptances for several communities: Glen Iris at Kilkerran, Braemar at Ballantrae, Kilkerran at Ballantrae, and Kirkwall at Ballantrae.

The Zoning Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing on a variance request for 101 Tony Holmes Drive, seeking to exceed the front-yard fence height limit (7-foot fence where 4 feet is the maximum), place an accessory structure in the front yard, and reduce the required 10-foot separation between accessory structures. The applicant is Monica Navarro; owners are Luis and Rosalie Navarro.

Pelham Council approves ReAmp consulting deal for former amphitheatre

The Pelham City Council unanimously approved a development consulting agreement for the ReAmp initiative to reimagine the former Oak Mountain Amphitheatre. The council also held work sessions on the FY2027 budget and considered several contracts and license applications.

ReAmp consulting agreement approved

At a special called meeting July 30, the council approved Resolution 2026-07-30-01, authorizing a development consulting agreement with John Benner and GenRev Properties for the ReAmp initiative. The agreement covers feasibility studies over the next 6-8 months to guide site development. The vote was unanimous by voice. No other substantive decisions were made.

Council agenda items from Aug. 3

The council met Aug. 3 for its regular meeting. Minutes have not yet been published, so no official actions are reported. The agenda included:

• A bid from Cox Contracting Company, Inc. for the Valleydale Terrace Water Main Replacement Project.
• A lighting services agreement with Alabama Power Company for Weatherly Neighborhood.

Pelham Council Eyes ReAmp Consulting Agreement; Zoning, Annexation Items Advance

The Pelham City Council was scheduled to consider a development consulting agreement for the ReAmp initiative — a plan to reimagine the former Oak Mountain Amphitheatre — at a special called meeting on July 30, 2026. City Council: Zoning, Annexation, and Licenses

Commercial Development Authority Reviews Montgomery Highway Properties

The Commercial Development Authority met July 21 to review its finance report and discuss the status and future use of three properties it owns. The agenda listed discussion of 1908 and 1910 Montgomery Highway, the Wellborn Property at 2786 Montgomery Highway, and the Fran's Property at 3103 Pelham Parkway.
