Massena Town Board advances data center moratorium, approves dog control handoff
The Massena Town Board voted unanimously (5-0) on Aug. 19 to schedule a public hearing on a six-month moratorium on data centers, following a petition with more than 1,200 signatures. The board also approved the Massena Humane Society taking over dog control, reinstated library part-time employees to the union, and approved a $99,344 HVAC maintenance contract with Trane. All votes were 5-0.
Town Board (Aug. 19)
In addition to the moratorium hearing and dog control changes, the board approved:
- A WIIA grant application for the North Grass River Project, $5,242,000.
- A CDBG grant application for economic development.
- Two change orders for the South Racquette Water District, net increase of $61,513.09.
- Warrant #8, totaling $1,541,918.53.
All votes were unanimous (5-0).
Village Board (Aug. 11)
The Village Board of Trustees met Aug. 11 but has not yet published minutes. The agenda included:

The Planning Commission reviewed a one-lot subdivision on Owl Ave/Marie St (VP-2026-05) and a site plan for MILC's new office at 242 N Main St (VP-2026-06). The board accepted the resignation of Joel Grigg and approved July 14 minutes.
Village Zoning Board of Appeals (Aug. 11)
