The City Council met Aug. 11 to consider a $220,000 subgrant agreement with Youth Shelter and Family Services for housing stability and eviction prevention, funded by SB3. The agenda also included acceptance of a land donation from the Rosebrough Family for recreation, north of the Senior Citizen Center, and a budget adjustment of $220,000 for the subgrant. The consent agenda included approval of minutes from May 26 and June 9, 2026.

On Aug. 19, the council issued a public notice that a quorum of members may attend a campaign meet and greet with Ben Ray Luján at Don Diego’s Restaurant & Lounge, 801 West Historic Highway 66. The notice stated no official action would be taken.

Business Improvement District

The Gallup Business Improvement District board met Aug. 20 to vote on a $3,000 reimbursement for a sign at 505 Trading, with a project cost of $4,000. The board also discussed the FY 27 work plan and budget, updates on downtown security patrols (Red Rock Security, bicycle patrols), and structural and architectural inspections of several downtown properties. A list of sign grant and facade improvement projects was presented.

Housing Authority

The Gallup Housing Authority Board met Aug. 21 to consider three resolutions: approving a SAC application to remove four vacant lots from public housing use restriction in the Sky City development; preliminarily approving the sale of two homes to CCRC, Inc.; and approving revised monthly utility allowances for Public Housing and Section 8 programs. The board also discussed appointing a secretary-treasurer or clerk for HUD Secure systems.

Gallup Council weighs $1.8M well repairs, $6.8M in temporary loans

In an emergency meeting, the council discussed a budget adjustment of $1.8 million from Fund 505 to repair city wells. The funds would be allocated to:

• Pena Well: $480,000
