Borger City Council, BEDC agendas include budget, tax rate, leases
The Borger City Council met Aug. 18 to consider a proposed FY 2027 operating budget that would raise the property tax rate, along with a resolution nominating Phillips 66 as a Texas Enterprise Project and an interlocal agreement with the City of Stinnett for temporary water system operator services. Minutes from the meeting have not yet been published, so no official actions are reported. The Borger Economic Development Corporation (Borger, Inc.) also held a regular meeting and a work session on Aug. 10; those minutes are also pending.
City Council: FY 2027 budget and tax rate
The council's agenda included the first reading of Ordinance O-003-26, the proposed FY 2027 operating budget. The proposed tax rate is $0.646590 per $100 valuation, up from the current $0.606807. According to the agenda, this would raise the median homestead tax bill from $407.05 to $470.85. A public hearing on the budget is set for Sept. 1, 2026.
The council also was scheduled to consider Resolution R-027-26, nominating Phillips 66 Company as a Texas Enterprise Project, and an interlocal agreement with the City of Stinnett for temporary water system operator services. The consent agenda included minutes, expenditures, financials, and the quarterly investment report for the third quarter of FY 2026.
Borger, Inc. regular meeting (Aug. 10)
The Borger Economic Development Corporation's regular meeting agenda included:
- An amendment to the lease agreement for 530 N. Main, Borger, Texas
- A lease agreement for 532 N. Main, Borger, Texas
- An amendment to the BEDC Job Training Agreement with Payton Machine
- Approval of July 2026 financials and expenditures
- A presentation of regional employment and wage data through June 2026
The agenda also listed an executive session to discuss real property leases, a potential gift, personnel, and business incentives.
Borger, Inc. work session (Aug. 10)
A separate work session was held at 108 E. 6th Street at 11:00 AM. The only agenda item was discussion of the draft FY 2027 Borger Chamber of Commerce Contract for Professional Services. The session was designated as a work session only, with no official action permitted.
