Greg Hansen, Administrative Officer, stated he had invited the Sheriff, District Attorney and the
Director of Community Corrections here to have a discussion about the upcoming Public Safety
Levy Reauthorization. Mr. Hansen stated that as they know, they are currently fiscally constrained
and stated that he provided a handout to the Board and staff with different options he is
recommending for the reauthorization. Mr. Hansen explained how he came up with these
numbers. Mr. Hansen explained that this is an employee-based levy to ensure proper staffing in
each of those departments. Next, Mr. Hansen went over each of the options he is recommending.

Mark Garton, Polk County Sheriff, provided a department update to the Board. Sheriff
Garton went over a handout he created for the Commissioners and it highlighted the
public safety levy reauthorization that is coming up, and overview of the first quarter in
2026, year over year comparisons (2025 v. 2026), year over year for the jail and
corrections operations and key takeaways and their commitment to the public. Sheriff
Garton stated that what this report shows is that their bookings are up, but the things
they cannot control, like court processing and releases are down. Sheriff Garton also
talked about their staffing levels. Sheriff Garton stated that their new dog control shelter
