Code Enforcement Hearing (Special Magistrate)

The Code Enforcement Hearing scheduled for January 27, 2022, is cancelled. The notice states the next hearing will be scheduled for February 24, 2021.

City Commission

The City Commission is reviewing several items including board appointments and community announcements. The agenda includes approving various purchase orders and a first reading of an ordinance to amend the city fee schedule.

Land Planning Agency

The agency will conduct public hearings for two ordinances regarding amendments to the city's Comprehensive Plan. The meeting also includes elections for Chairperson and Vice Chairperson.

The Land Planning Agency voted unanimously to recommend approval of two ordinances to the City Commission. Ordinance 21-2214 changes the land use designation on two parcels from County Mixed and Low Density Residential to City of Longwood Infill and Mixed Use, with a cap of 50 dwelling units. Ordinance 21-2216 changes the land use designation on two parcels at 811 and 655 Wilma Street from Industrial to Infill and Mixed Use for the American Muslim Community Center. Both recommendations were carried by unanimous roll call votes.

City Commission

The Longwood City Commission held a work session with the Gibbs Planning Group to review a retail market analysis, which projected demand for 165,000 square feet of new retail and restaurant space (50-60 new businesses) by 2027. The Commission reached consensus on three zoning changes: separating apartments from townhomes, requiring planned development for high-density apartments, and combining development manuals into one streamlined process. No formal votes were taken; these were consensus decisions to guide staff in drafting amendments.

Parks & Recreation Advisory Board

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board re-elected David Putz as Chair and Amanda Sackett as Vice-Chair by unanimous voice votes. The board approved the December 7, 2021 minutes as presented, and approved a $175 gift card for the Santa Claus performer, to be paid from the Parks and Recreation Department fund. No other formal decisions were made; the meeting focused on reports and discussion of upcoming events.
