PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
The City of Herrin will hold a public hearing on August 24, 2026, at 5:45 p.m., at Herrin City Hall,
300 N. Park Avenue, Herrin, Illinois, to provide interested parties an opportunity to express their
views on the proposed federally funded Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) project.
Persons with disabilities or non-English speaking persons who wish to attend the public hearing and
need assistance should contact Shelly Huggins, City Clerk, 300 N. Park Avenue, Herrin, Illinois
62948, (618) 942-3175, no later than August 21, 2026. Every effort will be made to make reasonable
accommodations for these persons.
On or about August 27, 2026, the City of Herrin intends to apply to the Illinois Department of
Commerce and Economic Opportunity for a grant from the State CDBG program. This program is
funded by Title 1 of the federal Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, as amended.
These funds are to be used for a community development project that will include the following
activities: replacement of approximately 3,091 linear feet of existing 6-inch cast iron water main with

Mark Dixen - Lived here most of his life. A structure 3 doors down from him and the ditch had been filled at
615 N 14th Street, causing flooding in multiple yards in the area. The structure is a lean too and does not have a
permit with the building. He has an issue with Code inspector. He's had street and alley come out and look at it
they have also not help with his issue.
Tom Harness - Superindent Williason county for veterans. VAC 500 N Holland Street provides funds for vets
and has resources for vets in our community. They are county funds. Working with other community
programs in our area. Tom Harness will fight for the vets.

Gordon Pruitt stated he has been trying to get the curb fixed in front of his house for some time. Paid in 2011 or
2012 to have it repaired. The curb was damaged again later when there was a water leak. In 2024, he had a
conversation with Alderman Ahlgren, and she had spoken with Tom, and it was to be taken care of. Also, there
have been several break-ins. He has had one at least once a year for the last 3 years. Would like to speak with
the police on how to make his house more secure.
