LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES April 13, 2026 Call to Order Melissa Ojeda, Vice Chair, called the meeting to order at 9:01 a.m. Roll Call Members Present: Melissa Ojeda, Don Johndrow, Mary Fear, Dale Mitchell, Joe Dahlstrom, Marlene Plua Absent: Mike Zaydel, Chair Library Staff: Jan Steele City Council Liaison: Amanda Chavarria Citizens: None Friends of the Library: None present. Citizen Comments None Staff and Council Liaison Reports City Council Liaison: Amanda Chavarria. Amanda will send the 2026 Workplan minutes to Jan Steele. Amanda discussed a few of the issues facing the Council, none pertaining directly to the Library. Staff: Jan Steele LED lighting has been replaced throughout the Library. The City has installed a new internet system, and the public computers at the Library are next in line to be updated. Cybersecurity training is required of staff. The library's website and social media must comply with ADA requirements. An ADA compliance report of the Library and other city facilities revealed problems that are currently being addressed. The Advisory Board’s newest member, Joe Dahlstrom, PhD was recognized at the Texas Library Association Conference for his outstanding leadership, career-long service to librarianship, and significant community contributions. Library Advisory Board

Library board to elect officers, set 2026 work plan

The Library Advisory Board will elect a Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary, and consider holding a workshop to develop a 2026 work plan. Members will also discuss creating a Library Display Policy and Test-Proctoring Policy, and appoint a policy review committee. The agenda includes routine reports from staff, the Council Liaison, and Friends of the Library, as well as approval of prior meeting minutes.

LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES January 12, 2026 Call to Order Mike Zaydel, Chair, called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. Roll Call LAB Members Present: Mike Zaydel, Melissa Ojeda, Don Johndrow, Mary Fear, Dale Mitchell, Marlene Plua, (Joe Dahlstrom (new member) Library Staff: Jan Steele City Council Liaison: Absent: Amanda Chavarria Citizens: None Friends of the Library: Absent: Gerald (Jerry) Nilsson-Weiskott Citizen Comments None Staff and Council Liaison Reports City Council Liaison: Amanda Chavarria was not in attendance. Staff: Jan Steele Monthly reports do not include tracking for TexShare Cards at this time. Jan will consider adding it. Jan applied for the Texas Municipal League Director’s Association Achievement of Excellence Award. The LED lighting upgrade will begin very soon. We will be providing plastic library cards. We are moving toward on-line computer registration. Staff computers have been updated; patron computers are in the process. Gayleen Rabakukk has taken over volunteer training. The old LOG newspapers are closer to being digitized, the process has been arduous. Seven performers have been booked for the Children’s Summer Reading Program, with one more opening remaining. Numerous events occurred over the holidays, including a visit from Santa during the City’s Christmas Tree Lighting. The Library also hosted a family game day early in the New Year.
