The Iron County Comprehensive Planning/Land & Zoning Committee met in the County Board Room of
the Iron County Courthouse in Hurley, WI on Tuesday, July 21st, 2026. Committee members present were
Chairman Patrick Hanson, Karen Lauer, Jeff Nevala. Steve Finco and Gary Kessler were excused. Erika
Roeder, Zoning Department Administrator, Assistant Zoning Administrator Mark Marczak as well as Larry
Youngs, County Board Chairman, were present.
Chairman Hanson called the meeting to order at 3:02p.m.
Roeder stated and acknowledged that the meeting notice has been posted properly.
Lauer then made the motion to approve the minutes from the 6/16/26 meeting. Nevala seconded.
Motion carried.
Mercer School Fee Waiver Request:
Director Roeder explained the Mercer school district has requested a waiver of the $ 64.00
permit fee for the Storage Structure they need to place on their property. It’s to be used to
house sporting equipment. The request was made due to limited financial resources and
the projects’ overall community benefit. Motion made by Lauer to approve, second by
Nevala. All in favor. Motion carried.

The Iron County Comprehensive Planning/Land & Zoning Committee met in the County Board Room of
the Iron County Courthouse in Hurley, WI on Tuesday, May 19th, 2026. Committee members present were
Chairman Patrick Hanson, Karen Lauer, Jeff Nevala, Steve Finco and Gary Kessler. Erika Roeder, Zoning
Department Administrator, Assistant Zoning Administrator Mark Marczak as well as GIS Specialist, Neil
Martinko were present.
Chairman Hanson called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m..
Roeder stated and acknowledged that the meeting notice has been posted properly.
Finco then made the motion to approve the minutes from the 5/19/26 meeting. Lauer seconded. Motion
carried.
G.I.S. Update : Neil Martinko, G.I.S. Specialist reported that his office continues to be busy with assigning
new numbers. He also reported that he’s turned in the Retained Fee and Grant Spending Report, which
has been accepted by the state, which means Iron County continues to have the ability to apply for State
Grants.

Administrator; Tara Krall, Office Manager; Larry Youngs, Co Board Chair; Jay Sween, Manager; Katy Broquard,

b. Appointment of new community member to Human Services Committee – Lauer nominated Deb Watts from
Mercer to be appointed as a community member of the Human Services Board. Karen spoke to Watts and she indicated
she would accept the appointment. Youngs appointed Watts as a community member of the Human Services Board.
Bucknell thanked former community members of the Board, Tom Innes and Lauren Snyder for their service and
commitment to Human Services.
