Smithfield Planning Board approves one-year extension for Smithfield Village project

The Smithfield Planning Board voted 7-2 to grant a one-year extension of final plan approval for the Smithfield Village major land development at 355 Putnam Pike, despite concerns about lack of a buyer. The board also discussed 2023 state land-use legislation amendments to the zoning ordinance and subdivision regulations, with possible votes deferred.

Smithfield Council to weigh battery storage zoning, fire station grant

The Smithfield Town Council will hold public hearings on zoning amendments to allow battery energy storage facilities and wind energy facilities, and will consider scheduling hearings on the Capital Improvements Program and vehicle impact protection devices. The council will also act on numerous liquor, entertainment, and victualling license renewals, plus several show-cause hearings for non-compliant licenses. In new business, the council will consider authorizing a $1 million grant application for a new fire station and several other purchases and contracts.

Zoning board approves duplex conversion at 606 Putnam Pike

The Smithfield Zoning Board of Review met on January 3, 2024, and approved a special use permit for Adler Properties, LLC to convert an existing residence at 606 Putnam Pike into a two-family dwelling in the Village District. The board also approved the minutes from the November 1, 2023 meeting. All votes were unanimous (5-0).
