Wheaton council weighs $5.77M police contract; zoning hearings on land-use requests

Wheaton council to weigh streetlight purchase, fire alarm contract; planning board to hear College Church parking lot request

City Council to consider streetlights, fire alarm contract

The Wheaton City Council will meet Aug. 3 to consider two purchases and an ordinance change. The council is asked to approve the purchase of 80 LED streetlight fixtures from Steiner Electric Company for up to $72,075.20. It also will consider authorizing a single-source procurement of wireless alarm network maintenance from Chicago Metropolitan Fire Protection Company for up to $180,000. In addition, the council will review a proposed amendment to city code covering electronic attendance, city clerk appointments, and insurance requirements, and will vote on approving $2,496,528.30 in bills via Warrant No. 925. Planning and Zoning Board to hear College Church parking lot request

The Planning and Zoning Board will hold a public hearing Aug. 11 on Zoning Application #26-20, submitted by College Church in Wheaton. The church seeks to rezone four properties at 311, 315, 319, and 323 E. Seminary Avenue from R-4 Residential to I-1 Institutional, and obtain a special use permit for a 53-space parking lot (with a minimum of 5 ADA spaces) on the north side of Seminary Avenue between Scott and Washington Streets. The applicant also requests a variance to allow a 5-foot pavement setback instead of the required 15 feet from the south property line. The hearing includes an opportunity for oral and written comments.

This hearing follows the cancellation of the board's July 28 meeting, which was called off due to a lack of quorum.
