Waldo County commissioners review 2027 budget requests across four sessions
Over the past two weeks, the Waldo County Commissioners have held four special sessions to review 2027 budget requests from county departments and community organizations. All four meetings were agenda-only; minutes have not yet been published, so no final decisions have been made. The commissioners are scheduled to vote on which requests to forward to the Budget Committee at a session on Aug. 21.
Budget review sessions
- **Aug. 13** – The commissioners reviewed 2027 budget requests from the 1076 Communications Center, the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, the Sheriff's Office, and the Jail. The agenda was otherwise procedural, with no other substantive items listed.
- **Aug. 15** – The session covered requests from Facilities, Information Technology, the Waldo County Soil & Water Conservation District, and Waldo Community Action Partners. Two new requests were also listed: the Winslow Community Cupboard and the Belfast Soup Kitchen.
- **Aug. 20** – The agenda included 2027 budget requests from the Health Benefits, Human Resources, Commissioners, and Finance departments. The commissioners also discussed a freeze on all expenses greater than $1,000 and on hiring, along with warrants for the county, the jail (MCRRC), and the Opioid Settlement. A copier quote and an updated 2027 IT budget request were also listed, as was an executive session for a nonpublic personnel matter as needed.
- **Aug. 21** – The commissioners will conduct a final review of all 2027 budget requests, including wages, and vote on which requests to forward to the Budget Committee. Follow-up items include the Winslow Food Cupboard budget request and a report from the Waldo County Firefighters' Association.
The Aug. 21 vote will determine which requests advance to the Budget Committee for further consideration. No outcomes from the review sessions are available yet, as minutes have not been published.
