Cedar Hills Council Adopts Golf Ball Claims Ordinance; Property Tax, Budget Decisions Pending
The Cedar Hills City Council adopted an ordinance amending the city code on no-fault golf ball claims at its Aug. 18 meeting. The same meeting included public hearings on a proposed property tax increase and the final FY2027 budget, but minutes have not yet been published, so the outcomes of those items are not yet known.
Council adopts golf ball claims ordinance
The council passed Ordinance No. 08-18-2026A, amending Title 1, Chapter 15 of the City Code regarding no-fault golf ball claims. The ordinance was adopted at the Aug. 18 meeting held at 3925 W Cedar Hills Drive. No vote tally was listed in the agenda. The notice was posted at City Offices, 10246 N Canyon Road, and on city and state websites.
Property tax increase proposed
The council held a public hearing on Aug. 11 on a proposed property tax rate that exceeds the certified tax rate. If approved, the increase would raise an estimated $150,000 in additional annual revenue for the city, a 19.55% rise in property tax budgeted revenue excluding new growth.
For a residence valued at $682,000, the city tax would increase from $276.07 to $330.09 per year, a $54.02 increase. For a business of the same value, the tax would rise from $501.95 to $600.16 per year, a $98.21 increase. The hearing was held at 6:00 PM in the Civic Center City Council Chambers, with virtual participation via Zoom and a YouTube live stream.
FY2027 budget and fees
At its Aug. 18 meeting, the council held a public hearing and considered resolutions to adopt the final FY2027 real and personal property tax levy (Resolution 08-18-2026A) and the final FY2027 budget (Resolution 08-18-2026B). Also on the agenda were amendments to the Official Fees, Bonds and Fines Schedule (Resolution 08-18-2026C) and a review of the Waste Management Hazardous Materials Recycling Program. The agenda also included amendments to Plat J2 in the Cedars at Cedar Hills Subdivision (H-1 Hillside Development Zone). Minutes for this meeting are not yet published, so no final action is confirmed.
Other notes
The Aug. 18 meeting was originally scheduled for Aug. 4 but was rescheduled. The council may also call a closed session per Utah Code 54-4-204 and 54-4-205.
Coming up
The Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Aug. 25 at 6:00 PM has been cancelled, according to a notice posted Aug. 14 by City Recorder Colleen A. Mulvey.
The City Council will hold a public hearing on Sept. 1 to receive comments on proposed amendments to Plat J2 in the Cedars at Cedar Hills Subdivision, located in the H-1 Hillside Development Zone. No other business is listed on that agenda.
