Basin Acres subdivision amendment on the Oct. 13 agenda

The Oct. 13 commissioners' agenda listed a request to adjust boundaries and easements for the Basin Acres Subdivision at 300 E 2000 S, Vernal, Utah. The same agenda listed the RFP opening for UC26-14, Uintah County Building North Parking Lot and Entrance Remodel; a reimbursement contract for the Ashley Valley Food Pantry Project with UBAOG; 2027 employee insurance benefit renewal recommendations; and museum policies regarding NAGPRA compliance, digital rights and child safety.

Planning Commission: two rezones and ordinance changes

Library Board

The Library Board agenda included approval of the Sept. 16, 2026 Special Meeting Minutes, a budget update, a director's update, board member items and public comment. A separate amended notice sets the board's remaining 2026 meetings monthly on the third Wednesday at 5 PM at the Uintah County Library, 204 East 100 N, Vernal, UT. The Oct. 6 commission agenda listed consideration of airport terminal funding and a settlement agreement in Oviatt Trust v. Christi Jenkins and Uintah County. It also listed ratification of a commercial property assessment services agreement with UAC, Resolution No. 09-29-2026 R2 to update the administrative manual's educational facility definition, and 2026 indigent abatements, along with a Board of Equalization session. Uintah County budget amendment and 491 East 400 South property purchase top Sept. 29 agenda; no minutes yet published

Uintah County Commissioners met Sept. 29, 2026, at 147 East Main in Vernal, with a public hearing on a 2026 budget amendment and a proposed purchase of real property on the agenda. As of Oct. 13, no minutes from that meeting have been published, so the county record does not show what commissioners decided. The county posted an audio recording of the meeting on Sept. 30.

Budget amendment and property purchase

Two items on the Sept. 29 agenda carried the largest potential impact. Uintah County Commission Weighs Funding Allocations, Grant Acceptance; Several Meetings Cancelled

Uintah County commissioners held a series of meetings over the past two weeks, but no decisions have been published yet. Agendas show the commission was set to consider allocating mineral lease funds and a federal payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILT) payment, accept a homeland security grant, and hear a public hearing on changing the county's form of government. Several work sessions were cancelled, and the commission's minutes from these meetings have not yet been posted.

County Commission: Funding and Agreements

At its Aug. 11 meeting, the commission was scheduled to allocate mineral lease funds from state lands and consider Resolution #08-11-2026 R1 on centrally assessed cross appeals. The agenda also included approval of warrants by Clerk-Auditor Mike Wilkins and recognition of Miss Uintah County and other volunteers.

On Aug. 18, the commission was set to allocate the PILT payment, accept the 2026 State Homeland Security Program Grant Award, review an ICAC Task Force Award Letter for fiscal year 27, and approve a law enforcement mutual aid agreement between the BLM and the Uintah County Sheriff's Office. The meeting notice also listed a bond-related item, but no details were provided.

Public hearings and cancellations

A public hearing on a proposed optional plan to change the county's form of government was held Aug. 13 at the Tridell Fire Station, 8000 E 10512 S, Tridell. The agenda listed no other business. Another public hearing was scheduled for Aug. 17 at 152 E Main, Vernal, but the agenda did not specify a topic.

Two work sessions were cancelled: Aug. 12 (no new items) and Aug. 19 (no quorum). The Aug. 19 cancellation notice said no other business was listed.

Library and planning boards

The Uintah County Library Board met Aug. 19 to elect officers, approve June 17 minutes, and adopt several policies: a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form, a Community Care Policy, and Standards of Conduct. The board also received a budget update and took public comment.

Why these items matter

County commissioners and planners held a full slate of meetings the week of July 14, but because minutes have not yet been published for any session, only the items that were scheduled for discussion or possible action can be reported. No vote tallies or final outcomes are available yet.

County Commission — July 14

The Uintah County Commissioners were scheduled to discuss and possibly approve a cooperating agency participation agreement with the Bureau of Land Management for an amendment to the Vernal Resource Management Plan affecting oil and gas leasing. The agreement would give the county a formal role in the federal review process.

Also on the agenda: changes to human resources policies 120, 200, 201, and 202; a five-year Motorola Flex subscription service contract for IT; approval of warrants submitted by Clerk-Auditor Mike Wilkins; and unspecified tax matters. Public comment was scheduled.

Planning Commission — July 15

The Planning Commission was set to hold a public hearing on a conditional use permit for Lacey and Chance Chance Horrocks to operate an RV park at 4670 N 10500 E in Lapoint (Serial No. 06:010:0002). The commission was also scheduled to consider two amendments to Chapter 17.33 of the land use ordinance — one allowing signs in the Mobile Home (MH) zone and another modifying automobile repair regulations.
