Tooele County Council, Planning Commission face busy agenda; no decisions published yet
No decisions have been published from Tooele County meetings held in the past two weeks, as minutes are not yet available. The county council and planning commission have several items on their upcoming agendas, including a proposed $2.5 million property sale to the state, a $8.49 million transportation project list, and a natural gas pipeline permit.
Tooele County Council
The council held a public hearing on Aug. 18 on the proposed sale of surplus county property at 74 S 100 E, Tooele (APN 02-026-0-0028) to the State of Utah, Division of Facilities, for $2,500,000. No vote has been reported.
At the same meeting, the council reviewed the Council of Governments' recommendations for Transportation Tax projects totaling $8,486,816.20. The list includes:
- Tooele City 1100 W Utah Ave: $881,786.40
- Tooele County Village Blvd: $6,246,712.80
- Tooele County Droubay Road: $1,243,931
- Stockton Park Plaza & Ball Park: $114,386
The council also considered ratifying several contracts: a ballot printing and mailing agreement with Runbeck Election Services, not to exceed $100,000; a Forest Service grant of up to $5,000 for Sheriff's Office law enforcement on Forest Service lands; a 2026-2027 School Resource Officer contract with the Tooele County School District for Stansbury Junior High and Stansbury High; and a rental agreement with Trackmail Solutions for election signature and digit verification equipment.
On Aug. 25, the council is scheduled to discuss a Court House Land Sale Agreement with Nathan Harris for the state's purchase of the courthouse land and building, as the current lease is ending. The agenda also includes public comments, audit reports, budgets, and the check register.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission met on Aug. 12 to consider several land use items, but minutes have not been published. The agenda included:
- CUP 2026-067: Questar Gas and Enbridge request to install a gas pipeline and regulator station for South Rim Community
- REZ 2026-080: Request by Scott Baird for Kennecott Utah Copper Corp to rezone from A-20 to C-S
- TCLUO 2026-111: Proposed updates to Chapter 2 and Chapter 17 of the Land Use Ordinance
- TCLUO 2026-100: Proposed Chapter 34 regarding Data Center Facilities
- TCLUO 2026-102: Proposed Regionally Significant Development Zone Overlay
On Sept. 2, the commission will hold a public hearing on CUP 2026-121, a conditional use permit for a 6-foot high-pressure natural gas pipeline requested by Enbridge. The commission will also approve minutes from the Aug. 12 meeting.
Other meetings
On Aug. 25, the Tooele County Sheriff's Office will auction two impounded goats (one black, one black and white) found on SR-138 in Grantsville and impounded on Aug. 4. The auction is at Anderson Livestock Auction, 3500 W. 500 N., Willard, UT. Owners must contact the Sheriff's Office at 435-882-5600, referencing Case No. 26-S05619, before the sale and pay care costs.
Also on Aug. 25, the Human Services Advisory Council will hear a presentation by the Rape Recovery Center (Gary Scheller), discuss Non-Medicaid Service Agreements and the SFY26 Year-End Report, review a 3rd Party Audit Report and DHHS-OSUMH Site Visit Audit, discuss the Fall 2026 Non-Medicaid Transition, and consider a new referral framework for Department of Corrections Recovery Support Services.
