Sanpete County weighs 1% sales tax for healthcare, E911; seeks board applicants

Sanpete County officials this week are considering a measure that would ask voters in November whether to impose a sales and use tax of up to 1% for healthcare and emergency services, including E911. The proposal was on the agenda for the Aug. 18 County Commission meeting, along with several other items, including a public hearing on a proposed new town and applications for two county boards. Healthcare and emergency services sales tax

The County Commission discussed a resolution to place a question on the November 2026 ballot asking voters whether to impose a sales and use tax of up to 1% for healthcare and emergency services, including E911. The measure would require voter approval. The commission also considered a separate resolution with the same proposed tax, along with routine approvals of claims, invoices, right-of-way applications, and subdivision applications.

Heritage Hills incorporation hearing

The commission held a second public hearing on the proposed incorporation of a new town called Heritage Hills, formerly Twin Oaks. Feasibility consultants from LRB Public Finance Advisors presented a modified study that found the incorporation would likely result in at least a 5% budget surplus. No decision was announced.

Road District and Planning Commission vacancies

The County Commission is accepting applications to fill two vacancies on the Special Service District #1 (Road District) Administrative Control Board. The board oversees road construction, repair, and maintenance in unincorporated areas using Mineral Lease funds. Applicants must be 21 or older, registered voters, and live in unincorporated Sanpete County. Terms end Dec. 31, 2026, and Dec. 31, 2027. Applications are due by noon on Aug. 27, 2026, and appointments will be considered at the Sept. 1 commission meeting. Board members receive per diem set by the County Commission.

Separately, the Planning Commission has one vacant at-large seat with a three-year term. Applicants must reside in Sanpete County. Applications are due by noon on Aug. 31, 2026, and the appointment will be reviewed at the Sept. 1 commission meeting. • A right-of-way application from Enbridge Gas to install a gas main on 18250 N (500 South & 600 W) in Mt. Pleasant.
• A right-of-way application from Terry R. Brotherson Excavating to replace an irrigation culvert with a 28-foot HDPE pipe at 19640 N. Mountainville Hwy.
• Approval of the 1-lot King Subdivision (5.00 acres) south of Axtell and the 6-lot Grizzly Gulch Subdivision Phase 1 south of Mt. Pleasant.
• Ratification of the purchase of approximately 99 acres for the Sanpete County Regional Airport from Professional Title Services.

Sanpete County Commission set to act on Fayette flood emergency, land use changes; landfill co-op on summer break
