City Council considers property tax increase, final budget
The Tooele City Council held a public hearing on August 19 to consider a proposed property tax increase. The increase includes $138,092 for a Judgement Levy Bond payment increase and $100,000 for fire department volunteer stipends and an administrative assistant. The council was scheduled to vote on Resolution 2026-61, adopting the final tax rate for fiscal year 2026-2027, and Resolution 2026-62, adopting the final budget. The meeting was held at Tooele City Hall Council Chambers, 90 North Main Street, with virtual participation available via the Tooele City YouTube Channel. Planning Commission reviews design standards, street vacation, and more
At its August 12 business meeting, the Planning Commission had several public hearings and decisions on its agenda. The commission was to consider adopting Chapter 11c Design Standards: Commercial, which would establish architectural standards for commercial, industrial, and mixed-use zoning districts. It also heard a request by Perry Homes and LH Perry Investments to amend Tooele City Code Title 7 Chapter 16a-3 regarding Commercial Special District eligibility and contiguity requirements. A petition by Seth Stapel (Send It Now, LLC) sought to partially vacate a 20-foot strip of Utah Avenue right-of-way, reducing the width from approximately 109 feet to 89 feet along 738 linear feet between the railroad crossing and the 1100 West intersection. The commission also considered a conditional use permit for Matthew Clawson for a detached accessory structure at 346 East 200 South that would exceed the 8% maximum lot coverage on a 0.17-acre R1-7 lot. A site plan for Millennial Park Phase 2 Townhomes, a 24-unit development at 400 North and 300 West, was also on the agenda.
