Sunset boards take up rental housing rules, park equipment; no decisions published yet
Sunset City's Planning Commission and City Council both held public hearings this month on proposed changes to the city's rental dwelling license rules, but no final decisions have been published. Meeting minutes for the Aug. 13 and Aug. 18 sessions are not yet available, so all items below remain pending action.
Rental housing license changes
The Planning Commission met Aug. 13 and held a public hearing on Ordinance No. 2026-04, which would amend definitions and licensing requirements for rental dwellings in Sunset City Code sections 3-10-1 and 3-10-2. The commission also discussed recommending the ordinance to the City Council, and separately considered amendments to allow external detached accessory dwelling units under Title 10, Chapter 12, as well as a form-based code change requiring commercial space before residential in mixed-use districts.
The City Council held its own public hearing on the same ordinance on Aug. 18 and had it on the agenda for a vote. No vote tally or outcome has been published.
Park equipment and school donation
Also on the Aug. 18 City Council agenda was a $21,636 voucher to Big T Recreation for the final invoice for new playground equipment and swings at Rachael Runyan Park, and a $200 donation to Sunset Elementary for spirit shirts. Both items were listed for approval but no results have been released.
Residential facilities ordinance certified
On Aug. 19, the City Council certified publication of Ordinance 2026-02, which adds Chapter 13 to Title 3 (Business and License Regulations) covering residential facilities for persons with a disability. The ordinance was passed and adopted at the June 2, 2026, regular meeting; the Aug. 19 item was procedural only, with no new decisions or discussions scheduled.
