South Jordan council takes up right-of-way, officer pay raises; CDBG hearing set

South Jordan city officials this week took up a proposed right-of-way vacation, officer pay raises, and a federal grant hearing, though no decisions have been published yet. The City Council also discussed accessory dwelling unit regulations, and the Planning Commission will review a new subdivision next week.

City Council

On Aug. 18, the City Council held a study meeting to discuss a Planning Commission appointment and accessory dwelling unit regulations. The agenda also included closed executive sessions on an individual's character or competence and on potential real property transactions.

Later that day, the regular council meeting included two public hearing items: Ordinance 2026-21 to vacate the Rosary Way right-of-way near the west side of Mountain View Corridor at 11200 South, and Resolution R2026-27 proposing compensation increases for specific city officers. The council also considered Resolution R2026-24 to appoint members to the Senior Advisory Committee. Public comment was taken in person at 6:50 p.m.

A separate notice for the same date announced the public hearing on the Rosary Way vacation, with written comments due by noon that day.

Community Development Block Grant

At its Aug. 13 meeting, the Council scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 1 to receive input on the 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) annual performance report and to discuss community needs for the 2027 program year. The city's CDBG award is $253,648. Written comments will be accepted through Sept. 16.

Arts Council

The Arts Council met Aug. 13 to approve July minutes and plan upcoming events: a Dueling Pianos performance on Aug. 28, a Get to the River craft event on Sept. 19, theater auditions for a fall show, a community project at Mulligans Wall, and a quilt show with an America250 theme on Sept. 26. The council also discussed budget ideas and adjustments.

City Staff

On Aug. 14, city staff issued a public notice of intent to amend the impact fee facilities plan and impact fee analysis for culinary water services. The notice invites public input per Utah Code, and no decision is being made at this time.

Planning Commission

The Aug. 11 Planning Commission meeting was cancelled. The next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 25.

South Jordan roundup: July meetings held but outcomes not yet public; rezoning hearing set for Aug. 4

South Jordan's City Council, Planning Commission, and Senior Advisory Committee all met in the second half of July, but minutes have not yet been published for any of those sessions. Because only agendas are available, this roundup reports what was scheduled for consideration — not what was decided. The most consequential items on the table were a proposed water impact fee for the Lark Meadows/Shoreline area and creation of the So Jo Marketplace Public Infrastructure District.

City Council — July 21

The Council had a regular meeting and a study meeting scheduled at South Jordan City Hall, 1600 W. Towne Center Drive. Items listed on the agenda included:

• **Ordinance 2026-14**: adopt a water impact fee for the Lark Meadows/Shoreline properties, tied to an update of the Water Impact Fee Facilities Plan and Impact Fee Analysis.
• **Ordinance 2026-16 & 2026-17**: amend the BH-MU zone to allow residential uses and repeal a prior exhibit.
• **Resolution R2026-21**: a second amendment to the Kunkler Trust development agreement with The Boyer Company.
• **Resolution R2026-26**: amend Memorial Park Cemetery transfer and replacement certificate fees.
• **Resolution R2026-13**: create the So Jo Marketplace Public Infrastructure District.

Planning Commission — July 28

The Commission was scheduled to hold administrative and legislative public hearings on five items:

• **Fitzgerald & Wagstaff residential zone amendment** at 3250 W 11400 S.
• **Sri Ganesha Hindu Temple** major site plan amendment at 1131 W 10290 S.
• **7 Brew Drive-Thru Coffee** site plan at 3634 W 11400 S.
• **Beauty Barn Salon Suites** site plan at 10956 S Jordan Gateway.
• **Almond Dental Building 2** site plan at 10433 S 2200 W.

A conditional use permit for a garage and accessory dwelling unit at 11756 S Gold Dust Drive was also listed. Written comments were due by 3:00 p.m. the day of the meeting.

Senior Advisory Committee — July 27

The Committee was scheduled to review its new Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget, which the agenda lists as having a $3,500 starting balance with no approved expenses. Old business included the Independence Lunch, Youth Council Bingo, and Pioneer Lunch.
