Santaquin City Council considers budget, salaries, and ADU ordinance; no decisions yet

Santaquin City officials held a series of meetings this week to review development proposals, discuss possible pay raises for elected officials, and consider the city's new budget. No decisions have been reported yet, as minutes from these meetings have not been published.

City Council: Budget, Salaries, and ADU Ordinance

On August 18, the City Council held public hearings on two topics: setting a compensation schedule for elected officers and possible cost-of-living and merit increases for executive municipal officers. The council also considered an ordinance to permit detached accessory dwelling units in all residential zones, a resolution to ratify the final FY2026-2027 budget, and a resolution for an agreement with the Central Utah Water Conservancy District for financial construction support. The consent agenda included $1,734,728.28 in city expenditures.

On August 19, the council considered Ordinance 08-01-2026, which would set annual salaries at $7,848.47 for council members and $14,668.30 for the mayor. The ordinance includes a provision allowing elected officials to decline any or all of the salary. A public hearing on the salaries was held the previous day.

Also on August 18, the council held a work session to discuss a solid waste and recycling transition report from Waste Management and a development proposal from Myler Development. These were discussion items only, with no formal votes scheduled.

Planning Commission and Development Review

The Planning Commission meeting scheduled for August 11 was cancelled due to a lack of agenda items.

The Development Review Committee met on August 11 to review final plans for Tanner Flats Phase 5, preliminary plans for Scenic Ridge Phase E, and a proposal for the Santaquin Veterinary Clinic. The committee also approved minutes from its July 28 meeting.

Coming Up

On August 25, the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on a proposed amendment to prohibit bulk fuel storage over 150 gallons in residential zones. The hearing will be held at 7:00 PM at 110 S. Center Street, with residents able to sign up to speak at the entrance.

The Development Review Committee will also meet August 25 to review a retail site plan, a preliminary plan for Apple Hollow Plat B-5, and final plans for Bella Vista Phases 1-4.

Santaquin meetings: Roadway contract, subdivision reviews, and zoning hearings on the agenda

City Council considers $1.09 million in expenditures and roadway asphalt contract

The Santaquin City Council's July 21 regular meeting agenda included consent items totaling $1,089,329.17 in city expenditures — $197,767.60 from June 30, 2026, and $891,561.57 covering July 4–17, 2026. The council was also scheduled to discuss and possibly act on awarding a roadway asphalt projects contract. • **Fuel tank restriction:** Proposed amendments to city code sections SCC 10.40.070, 10.20.070–110, 10.20.150, 10.20.190, and 10.20.220 would prohibit fuel tanks exceeding 150 gallons in all residential zones.

• **Detached accessory dwelling units (DADUs):** Proposed amendments to city code sections 10.16.080, 10.20.090, 10.20.110, 10.20.150, 10.20.210, and 10.20.220 would allow DADUs in residential R-12, R-20, RC, R-Ag, and R-43 zones.
