Property tax increase proposal
The council heard a Truth-in-Taxation hearing on Resolution 26-24, which would adopt the FY2027 budget and set a tax rate that exceeds the certified rate. If approved, property tax revenue would increase by 54.94% over last year's budgeted revenue, excluding new growth. The additional funds are intended to cover a revenue shortfall, fund a 2.8% cost-of-living adjustment, and provide wage corrections for full-time employees.
Under the proposal, a residence valued at $439,000 would see its annual property tax rise from $388.25 to $601.69, an increase of $213.44. A business property of the same value would rise from $705.91 to $1,093.99, an increase of $388.08.
