Riverton council adopts Title 18 code amendments; land sale and rezone hearings await published minutes

Riverton's City Council adopted Ordinance No. 26-20, a package of text amendments to the city's land use code, according to a notice of adoption certified by the City Recorder. The notice does not include a vote tally. Most other items from the past two weeks — a proposed sale of city-owned land, a 3.96-acre rezone, a Walmart site plan amendment — appeared on agendas whose minutes have not been published, so the records reviewed do not establish what was decided.

Council adopts Ordinance No. 26-20

The adopted ordinance amends several sections of Title 18, Land Use and Development. The listed sections cover Commercial Landscape Guidelines (18.215.030(3) and 18.135.080), the definitions of 'Master' and 'General' Plans (18.05), Residential Building Size and Exterior Materials (18.135.040), Zoning Districts (18.10.010) and the M-2 Zone (18.195.010). The city described the changes as minor edits and text removals proposed to bring the code into consistency with Utah State Codes. The adoption notice does not state how council members voted.

Land sale hearing held; result not recorded

The Oct. 6 council agenda included a public hearing on selling two adjacent city-owned remnant parcels totaling 0.13 acres, at 2646 West 13400 South (Tax ID 27-33-476-044-0000) and 13400 South Trestle Lane (Tax ID 27-33-476-045-0000). The same agenda listed Resolution No. 26-46, a real estate purchase contract with David D. King to sell the property at 2646 West 13400 South. No minutes have been published, so no vote, sale price, or closing term is established in the available record.

Consent items and other agenda business

The Oct. 6 agenda also listed Resolution No. 26-45, an amendment to the water contract with Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District; Resolution No. 26-49, an agreement with Newman Construction for the 1776 W. 11800 S. Frontage Improvement Project; Resolution No. 26-47, a franchise agreement with Strata Networks; and surplus equipment disposal. It also listed a closed session on pending or reasonably imminent litigation, a 4:00 p.m. tour of the Bluffdale Bridge railroad crossing at 13400 S., and a 4:45 p.m. work session. Outcomes for these items are not recorded in the documents reviewed.

Planning Commission, Oct. 8

The Planning Commission noticed a public hearing on four items: a conditional use permit for a home woodcraft business at 3637 West Roy Lane, identified in one notice as 'Millhand Company'; an amended site plan for Walmart at 1202 West 12600 South to add electric vehicle charging stations; a rezone of about 3.96 acres at 12007 South Reeves Lane from A-5 to R-3, described as agricultural to single-family residential; and an ordinance amendment to Title 18 regarding residential facilities. Council adopts two rezoning ordinances along Redwood Road

The Riverton City Council adopted two ordinances at its July 21, 2026 meeting that rezone parcels along South Redwood Road from lower-density to higher-density residential use.

Ordinance No. 26-17 (George Rezone, PLZ-26-4001) rezones 1.80 acres at 12345 and 12363 South Redwood Road from RR-22 (single-family residential, half-acre minimum lots) to RM-6 (detached single-family, 5,000-square-foot minimum lots, up to 6 units per acre).

Ordinance No. 26-18 (Prince Rezone, PLZ-26-4005) rezones 1.80 acres across two 0.90-acre parcels at 12341 and 12389 South Redwood Road from RR-22 to RM-6.

Both items were listed as public hearing and action items on the July 21 agenda. The council's adoption notices confirm the ordinances were passed. Minutes have not yet been published, so vote tallies are not available.

The July 21 work session and regular meeting agenda also listed several other items for consideration, though only the two rezone ordinances have confirmed adoption notices:

Work session discussion topics included a Zions Bank economic presentation, a water smart metering update, and parking ticket policy. Because minutes are not yet published, the outcomes of these items are not confirmed.
