Providence City Council weighs rezoning, trail permit; minutes pending
Providence City officials this month considered a request to rezone three parcels near 890 W 300 S to mixed-use, and a floodplain permit for the Blacksmith Fork Pedestrian Trail. The meetings took place Aug. 12 and Aug. 19, but minutes have not yet been published, so no decisions have been recorded.
Rezoning request for Alder Farms
The Providence City Planning Commission held a public hearing Aug. 12 on a request to rezone three parcels from Life Cycle Residential (LCR) to Mixed Use (MXD). The parcels are identified as 02-090-0008, 02-090-0009, and 03-002-0016, located at 890 and 850 W 300 S and 515 S 850 W. The commission was also asked to approve minutes from its July 8 meeting.
The Providence City Council took up the same rezoning request at its Aug. 19 meeting. The council agenda included an ordinance to rezone the three parcels, with the Planning Commission having already recommended approval. The council also considered two appointments to the Planning Commission: Resolution 08-2026 appointing Crystal Howe, and Resolution 09-2026 appointing Justin McMurdie. The agenda also listed approval of the July 15, 2026 meeting minutes and a Just Serve Award presentation.
Floodplain permit for trail
Also on Aug. 12, the Providence City Administrative Land Use Authority (ALUA) met to consider a Floodplain Development Permit application for the Blacksmith Fork Pedestrian Trail. The agenda included approval of minutes from the July 15, 2026 meeting. Public comments were accepted by email before the meeting.

Both the Planning Commission and the City Council had minutes-approval items on their agendas. No other action or study items were listed for the Planning Commission's subdivision-only meeting.
