North Salt Lake Council authorizes $15M in sales tax refunding bonds

The North Salt Lake City Council on Aug. 18 authorized the issuance of up to $15 million in sales tax revenue refunding bonds, the most consequential action taken in the past two weeks. The bonds will refund all or part of the city's outstanding Series 2022 sales tax revenue bonds and pay related issuance costs, with repayment secured by local sales and use tax revenues.

City Council actions

The council adopted Resolution 2026-35R, which authorizes the bonds. The bonds carry an interest rate not to exceed 5.50% per annum, mature within 21 years, and may be sold at a discount from par not to exceed 2.00%. A 30-day public contest period for the resolution's legality began with the notice's publication.

In other action, the council awarded a bid to JLR and Sons, Inc. for city property improvements not to exceed $250,000. It also approved franchise agreements with Emery Telecom and Rocky Mountain Power, purchased trail easements at 55 West Center Street and 110 South Main Street, and approved golf cart equipment, infrastructure, and GPS purchases for Eaglewood Golf Course.

Other recent meetings

The Health and Wellness Committee met Aug. 10 to discuss a recap of the Health and Wellness Fair, neighborhood block parties, a trails and events sticker series, an update on the Get Healthy Utah Grant, and methods for intergenerational connection. No decisions were reported.

The Planning Commission met Aug. 11 to consider a conditional use permit for a 35-foot-wide drive approach at 661 East 50 North, submitted by MTB Construction LLC. The commission also received a report on City Council actions and approved the July 28 meeting minutes. No decision on the permit is recorded.

The Trails and Active Transportation Committee canceled its Aug. 11 meeting; the next is scheduled for Sept. 8 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Conference Room at City Hall, 10 East Center Street. A separate agenda for Aug. 11 listed a review of Trails Master Plan recommendations, but no minutes are available.

North Salt Lake's City Council is scheduled to consider awarding a $699,995.69 street preservation contract this month, the largest dollar item in a busy stretch of city meetings.
