Mapleton City Council, Planning Commission to weigh lift station upgrade, public works standards
Mapleton's City Council and Planning Commission have several items on upcoming agendas, including a $66,995.80 contract for a sewer lift station upgrade and a proposal to update public works design standards. None of these items have been decided yet; they are scheduled for discussion and potential action at meetings later this month.
Planning Commission
The Planning Commission met on August 13, 2026, to consider a home occupation permit for an in-home preschool. The permit, requested by Laurie Nelson, would allow a preschool for children ages 3–5 at 952 West 1700 North. The commission also reviewed minutes from its July 9 meeting. No minutes from this meeting have been published yet.
City Council
The City Council has two meetings on its calendar.
August 18: Public Works Design Standards
The council is proposing to adopt revised Public Works Design Standards, which set requirements for public infrastructure built by the city or with private development. The revisions would update existing written standards and standard drawings, add new ones, and include city-specific changes to the Utah APWA General Conditions. A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for September 2, 2026, at 6:00 pm, with a council vote to follow.
August 19: Lift Station Upgrade and Other Items
The council's regular meeting on August 19 includes a consent agenda item to approve a resolution paying Total Power & Controls $66,995.80 for electrical and SCADA controls upgrades at the 2000 North Lift Station. The meeting also includes recognition of city employees involved in a trench rescue, the swearing in of new police officers and a fire engineer, and a public forum for non-agenda items. The council may adjourn into a closed session per Utah Code §52-4-205. Minutes from the August 5 council meeting are also on the agenda for approval.
