Kanab City Council agenda includes fire truck funding, zoning changes; planning hearings set for Sept. 1
The Kanab City Council met Aug. 11 for a regular meeting and a public hearing, but minutes have not yet been published, so no decisions are reported. The agenda included a request for state funding to replace an aging fire truck, two zoning changes, and a subdivision plat. The city library board also met Aug. 12.
City Council agenda
The council held a public hearing on the city's application to the Utah Community Impact Board (CIB) for funding to purchase a new aerial ladder fire truck, replacing aging equipment and improving fire and rescue services. The hearing was part of the Aug. 11 meeting at 6:30 PM in the city council chambers at 26 North 100 East. Written comments could be submitted to the city before the meeting.
Other items on the agenda included:
- A zoning change for Parcel K-C-2-1 (318 N 100 E) from R-1-8 to C-2.
- A zoning change for Parcel K-376-2 (1045 S HWY 89A) from C-2 to R-1-15.
- Final plat for Phase 1 of Hidden Canyon Subdivision.
- Accounts payable vouchers totaling $889,429.75 for July-August 2026.
The council also discussed a resolution on national monument boundaries, future parks priorities, annexation, and potential litigation in closed session.
Library Board
The Kanab City Library Board met Aug. 12 to approve July minutes, hear a state of the library report from JanaLee Peay, review summer reading statistics, and discuss library goals. The board also thanked outgoing member Megan Smith and discussed a new board member, and received a Friends of the Library report.
Coming up
The Kanab City Planning Commission will hold two public hearings on Sept. 1 at 6:30 PM in the city council chambers at 26 N. 100 E.
- A zone change for Parcel K-7-8-Annex at approximately 664 E Chinle Dr from C3 (Commercial) to R-1-10 (Residential Single Family, 10,000 sq. ft. minimum). If approved, the lot could be split without requiring a private road.
- A zone change for Parcel K-228-3 at approximately 346 E 100 S from R-1-8 (single-family) to RM (multi-family). If approved, the future plan is to sell each side of the duplex individually.
