Gunnison Council Weighs Hospital Expansion, Airport Board Reviews Plans
The Gunnison City Council met Aug. 19 with an agenda that included a public hearing on partially vacating the right-of-way on 100 North to allow the Gunnison Valley Hospital to expand. No decisions have been published yet, as meeting minutes are not available. The council also discussed pipeline easements and a resolution on managing public treasury accounts.
City Council
The council held a public hearing on a proposed partial vacation of 100 North between Main Street and 100 East. According to the agenda, the vacation would not affect existing utility easements and is intended to facilitate expansion of the Gunnison Valley Hospital while preserving automotive and pedestrian routes. The meeting took place at Gunnison City Hall, 38 West Center Street, at 6:00 p.m.
Also on the agenda were discussion and possible action on Tarr Canyon Pipeline easements, a resolution designating authorized personnel to manage PTIF accounts, and approval of bills for the period ending Aug. 13, 2026. The council could also enter closed session for personnel or legal matters.
No votes or dollar amounts were listed in the agenda, and minutes have not yet been published.
Airport Board
The Salina Gunnison Airport Board met Aug. 20 at the Salina-Gunnison Airport in Redmond. The board heard a presentation from J-U-B Engineers on the Airport Layout Plan update, discussed a possible new well at the airport, and reviewed current lease agreements. The board also discussed the Utah Inland Port Project Area Designation. A closed session was scheduled to discuss the purchase, exchange, or lease of real property.

The Gunnison Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Aug. 26 at Gunnison City Hall, 38 West Center Street, to gather input on proposed regulations for home-based businesses. The proposal would create three classes of home occupations: low-impact, moderate impact, and not-permitted. Residents are encouraged to attend and provide feedback.
