Hamburg ZBA tables battery storage, grants five variances

The Hamburg Zoning Board of Appeals tabled a proposed battery energy storage system pending environmental review and granted five area variances at its Aug. 4 meeting. All votes were unanimous.

The board tabled Application #6150 for a tier 3 battery storage system at 6433 Railroad Ave. pending State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR). The vote was unanimous.

The board also approved the July 2026 minutes unanimously, with member Chapman abstaining.

Planning Board (Aug. 5)

The Planning Board met Aug. 5, but minutes have not yet been published. The agenda included public hearings for a 2,460 sq-ft Radius Federal Credit Union at 5505 Southwestern Blvd. and a retail cannabis dispensary at 3233 Lakeshore Road. Site plans were listed for a tier 3 battery storage system at 6433 Railroad Ave., a 55,000 sq-ft industrial storage building at 3100 Lakeshore Road, and a preliminary plat for a 2-lot subdivision at 6670 Taylor Rd.

Town Board (Aug. 10)

The Town Board met Aug. 10, but minutes have not yet been published. The agenda included public hearings on proposed Local Law #12, 2026 to amend Chapter 109 (Fair Housing) and zoning text amendments creating a new Lake View Commercial District. Hamburg Town Board approves fire-truck bond; zoning and planning boards weigh storage, signage, and development proposals

The Hamburg Town Board voted unanimously July 13 to issue general-obligation serial bonds to fund a fire truck for the Newton Abbott Volunteer Fire Company, part of a batch of approvals that included grant applications, unsafe-structure declarations, and budget amendments.

Town Board: Fire-truck bond and grants approved

The board approved the fire-truck bond measure 5–0, according to official minutes. Several grant applications also passed unanimously, 5–0:
