Stockbridge City Council to weigh $2.45M waste contract, $3M road resurfacing

City Council meeting (Aug. 10)

Development Authority meeting (Aug. 11)

The Stockbridge Citywide Development Authority discussed sponsorship requests for the Chris Tucker Golf Tournament & Comedy Show (Aug. 22 & 24) and the LPGA Golf Invitational (October 2026), a Hispanic Business Expo sponsorship split with the DDA ($875 per board), small business loan applications, the 2027 budget, and a request to appoint an executive director. The board also received updates on the tax abatement policy and a $500,000 revolving loan fund.

Community Zoning Information Meeting (Aug. 12)

The meeting covered two major zoning modification requests for previously approved but unbuilt townhome developments:

• ZM-2026-02: A revised 91-unit townhome plan at 55 Valley Hill Road, replacing a previously approved 149-unit plan by D.R. Horton.
• ZM-2026-03: A revised 90-unit townhome plan at 4882 North Henry Boulevard, including a request to remove five zoning conditions (site plan, waste collection, architectural design, gated community, rental cap) from the 2024 approval.

Both properties were sold to new owners after the original developments were not built. The meeting was informational; no final decisions were made.

Budget retreat (Aug. 12–14)

The City Council held a three-day budget retreat. Presentations covered city events, amphitheater operations, community development, estimated revenues, finance and administration, and department budgets (Municipal Court, Clerk's Office, IT, Human Resources, Economic Development, Public Works, and Police). Youth Council Advisory Committee (Aug. 20)

Planning Commission (Aug. 20)

The commission held a public hearing on the two townhome zoning modifications (ZM-2026-02 and ZM-2026-03) and approved minutes from the Aug. 6 meeting.

Investigative hearing (Aug. 22)

The City Council convened an investigative hearing under Charter § 2.17 at Stockbridge City Hall. The agenda included only the call to order, pledge, hearing declaration, and adjournment; no specific topics or actions were listed.

Stockbridge council to weigh 200-unit development, waste contract, millage rate

No decisions were made by Stockbridge boards in the past two weeks; all recent meetings were agenda-only, with minutes not yet published. The most consequential items are scheduled for the coming week, including a City Council vote on a 200-unit mixed-use development, a residential waste collection contract, and a public hearing on the 2026 millage rate.

Recent meetings (agenda only)

The City Council met July 28 to discuss infrastructure contracts, including a $139,220.00 project to replace a culvert and stabilize a slope on Hillcrest Street, and a $216,835.00 design contract for a 1.1-mile multi-use trail along Walt Stephens Road. The City Council will hold public hearings and consider several land-use items at its regular meeting Aug. 10:

Stockbridge meetings this week focus on quarry rezoning, 200-unit development, and tax incentive vote

Stockbridge residents saw a packed two weeks of public meetings, but official minutes have not yet been published for any of the six gatherings held between July 8 and July 17. Based on the agendas released, the most consequential items scheduled for discussion or votes included a proposed rock quarry expansion on North Henry Boulevard, a 200-unit mixed-use development on Old Conyers Road, and a second reading of a tax incentive program for blighted properties.

Quarry expansion and bed-and-breakfast zoning

A July 8 community zoning information meeting laid out five zoning cases for public review. The largest involves 4231 North Henry Boulevard, where the city is considering a comprehensive plan amendment from Low-Density Mixed-Use to Heavy Industrial (Case CP-2026-01), a rezoning from C-2 to Heavy Industrial (Case RZ-2026-02), and a special use permit for mineral removal and rock quarry operations (Case SP-2026-02). The same meeting included a rezoning of 112 Old Conyers Road from C-3 to Rural Residential (Case RZ-2026-01) and a special use permit for a bed-and-breakfast inn at that address (Case SP-2026-01). No votes were recorded; minutes are not yet available.

Planning Commission takes up six items

The Stockbridge Planning Commission met July 16 to hold a public hearing and consider six items, making recommendations to the City Council. The agenda included a major zoning modification request for 200 apartments and a six-story building at 111 Old Conyers Road (Case ZM-2026-01), the bed-and-breakfast rezoning and special use permit at 112 Old Conyers Road, and the comprehensive plan amendment, rezoning, and special use permit for quarry operations at 4231 North Henry Boulevard. Outcomes are not yet documented because minutes have not been published.

City Council: tax incentives, engineering contract, appointment

The City Council's July 13 agenda called for a second reading and vote on an ordinance establishing a Community Redevelopment Tax Incentive program for blighted properties. The council was also scheduled to consider a scope of services under Contract No. RFP 2024-0001 with Whitley Engineering, Inc., appoint a member to the Planning Commission, and adopt minutes from the June 2 Henry County BOC joint meeting and the June 8 City Council summary minutes. Because minutes are not yet published, the results of the vote and appointments cannot be confirmed.

Main Street, Youth Council, and special called meeting

The Main Street Advisory Board met July 10 to review May 2026 meeting minutes and financial statements, discuss the hiring of a new Downtown Marketing Specialist, and plan an annual work plan retreat for September. The board also had Movie Night and Motorcycle Safety Ride recaps and a Main Street Program bylaws discussion on its agenda.

The Youth Council Advisory Committee met July 16 to discuss Fill The Bus, a City of Stockbridge Back to School Drive, Area Beautification, recruitment and interviews, and its budget.

A July 17 special called City Council meeting contained only procedural boilerplate, with no specific legislative items, contracts, or public hearings listed.
