Scottsville Council to vote on SCAN lease; recent meetings were informational
No formal decisions were made at the Scottsville Town Council's two meetings held Aug. 10, both of which were informational. The council's next regular business meeting, scheduled for Aug. 24, includes a vote on a lease agreement with SCAN, along with discussions on taxes and the capital improvement plan.

Police monthly stats (Aug. 10)
The council received the Scottsville Police Department's monthly statistics report for 2026. The report showed 1,768 total calls for service in town, representing 17.65% of the year's total, and 1,456 officer calls for service, 82.35% of the year total. There were 30 custodial arrests, 241 summons and 241 warnings, and 561 traffic stops. The agenda was a data summary with no action items.
Work session (Aug. 10)
The council held a work session to gather information on several items, with no formal votes expected. Topics included a plan for replacing town signs, using or refunding the Bowers Donation and repairing Canal Basin Square, a revision to the 2025 Capital Improvement Plan, and development of an ordinance for the sale of marijuana. The council also entered a closed session to consult legal counsel about collecting meals tax from a specific business.
Police report (Aug. 10)
The council received the August 2026 police report. It detailed a vehicle pursuit on Valley St. involving a driver wanted for an assault with a firearm in Albemarle County; the driver fled, crashed at James River Rd. and Blenheim Rd., and was charged with felony eluding, DUI 2nd offense, and refusal. A suspect in the Dollar General Store embezzlement case was arrested and provided a full confession. Auxiliary police officers donated 109.5 hours in August, saving the town $3,460.62 for the month and $21,929.90 for fiscal year 26/27. The Drone Replacement Grant was closed after the state reimbursed the town $20,319.15. A $16,800 grant application for the 599 Grant Funds was submitted to DCJS, and a Flock Safety Camera Grant has been approved pending council agreement.
Upcoming meeting (Aug. 24)
The council's regular business meeting will include a vote on a lease agreement with SCAN. The council will also discuss the meals tax, itinerant merchant tax, the Capital Improvement Plan, and the real estate tax. Public comment is limited to non-agenda items.
