Pleasant Hill Council awards $1.68M fire bond, approves Maple Drive purchase
The Pleasant Hill City Council approved a $1.68 million bond for fire department equipment and the purchase of a Maple Drive property at its Aug. 11 meeting. All votes were 4-0 with one member absent.
City Council (Aug. 11)
The council awarded a $1,683,177.75 bond to BOK Financial Securities for fire department vehicles and equipment. It also approved the purchase of 5042 Maple Drive for $344,000 from Mullen Enterprises.
Other actions included:
- Disposal of a portion of NE 12th Ave and NE 52nd Ct (4-0)
- First reading of Ordinance #974 to vacate NE 12th Ave (4-0)
- Approval of the Brugioni Estates preliminary plat and development agreement (4-0)
- Updated Economic Development Specialist job description (4-0)
- Payment application and change order for the University Ave/Shadyview project (4-0)
- Updated mitigation strategies for the Polk County Hazard Mitigation Plan (4-0)
Parks and Recreation Commission (Aug. 13)
The commission's agenda included an oath of office for new commissioners Jessica Hugill and Amanda Barlow, and updates on park projects: Doanes Park playground completion, Meacham Place Park/Sunrise Restrooms, Hickory Glen Park Phase 4, Youth Center tech upgrades, a sports facility feasibility study, and trail crossing improvements. A flood update covered the July 14, 2026 event, which saw Fourmile Creek reach its second-highest level, road closures, and voluntary evacuation of 20 units at Pleasant Valley Mobile Home Park. The commission also scheduled a cemetery clean-up for Oct. 15-31 and reported 126 shelter/facility rentals, $1,615 in revenue, and 721 event attendance. Minutes have not yet been published.
City Council work session (Aug. 18)
The council held an informational work session with no votes. City Manager Ben Champ and Assistant City Manager Madeline Sturms presented on legislative changes from the 2026 session affecting administrative processes, community development, building requirements, and property tax.
Coming up
The City Council will meet Aug. 25. The agenda includes a public hearing and first reading of three zoning code amendments (Ordinances #975, #976, #977) covering accessory structures, accessory dwelling units, fireworks sales, and parking requirements. The council will also consider second reading of a street vacation, approval of plats for Journey Credit Union and Immanuel Plat 1, a School Resource Officer agreement with Southeast Polk Community School District, a $1.62 million general obligation bond issuance, and a purchase of mobile column lifts for Public Works.
