Carlin City Council weighs city manager hire, housing, and generator
The Carlin City Council met Aug. 11 to consider a contract for a new city manager, a proposal to expand affordable housing, and a generator for the senior center. City Council considers city manager, housing, and generator
The council's agenda included a possible contract for Cameron Ballantyne as City Manager. Also discussed was a proposal from Flex Housing to expand affordable housing for miners and transient workers, which the agenda said could increase taxable revenue. The council considered installing a diesel generator at the Carlin Senior Center and appraising parcel 002-210-065 for the Nevada Gold Mines Housing Project.
Other items included approval of a parcel map to combine parcels 002.200.019 and 002.200.018 into one light industrial parcel, an appointment to the Equestrian Park Board, and a resident's complaint about dogs at large.
Equestrian Park Committee reviews events, budget, and lighting
The Carlin Equestrian Park Committee met Aug. 10 to review and possibly approve 501(c)(3) updates, fundraisers such as bar branding and a raffle, and upcoming events including the Carlin Ranch Hand Rodeo, Mounted Shooting Event, and Tom Tomera Memorial Branding. The committee also discussed capital improvements at the park, including lighting upgrades, and reviewed the FY 2026-2027 revenue and expenses. Minutes have not been published.
Park and Recreation Board reviews events and basketball court
The Carlin Park and Recreation Board met Aug. 11 to review and possibly approve the 2026 SHO 'N' SHINE, the Carlin Chinese Garden Spook Walk, and the December Sugar Plum Square. The board also considered a presentation by Gage Lewis regarding a basketball court project. Public comment periods were scheduled, but no action was taken on those comments.

The Carlin City Council will hold its next regular meeting on Aug. 26. The agenda includes a lease for a sand and gravel crushing and concrete batch plant on parcel 002-290-001, a bid for the Solid Screening Facility Project, and finalizing engineering on the Oak Street Lift Station. The council will also discuss the Carlin Honor Camp Committee's recommendations, including community priorities and accepting facilities from the state. Other items include a nuisance abatement resolution for 506 Camp Street and a Fire Department request for $7,267.50 to install an engine on ambulance #949.
