Milton boards weigh Laboure College purchase, school design, and fire station work

This week, Milton's boards and committees met to advance several major projects, including the potential purchase of Laboure College, design work for a new school, and fire station improvements. Because minutes from these meetings have not yet been published, only agenda items are reported here.

Warrant Committee: Laboure College and Fall Town Meeting articles

The Warrant Committee met Aug. 10 to discuss the Laboure College purchase with guests from the School Building Committee and to consider articles for the Fall Town Meeting. Items included water main funding, bond surplus capital funding, FY27 budget adjustments, a $300,000 Community Preservation Committee recommendation for the Tucker School Playground, an amendment to MBTA zoning regarding affordability, and an appropriation for the School Building Committee to design a new school at Laboure College. School Committee: handbooks, superintendent search, and budget appointment

The School Committee met Aug. 19 to vote on the 2026-2027 school handbooks (Milton High, Pierce Middle, Elementary, Staff, and Student-Athlete), select a search firm for the superintendent search, and appoint Robert Milt to the Budget Coordination Committee. The agenda also included a School Building Committee report with a presentation by Sean O'Rourke.

Fire Station Building Committee

The Fire Station Building Committee met Aug. 18 to approve the July vendor invoice packet for the East Milton project, vote on recommended change orders and purchase orders, approve signage, and receive an update on the Atherton project design and schedule. On Aug. 21, the Atherton Working Group reviewed the design based on committee feedback, discussed the project schedule, and reviewed the estimate process.

Blue Hills Regional Vocational School Committee

The Blue Hills Regional District School Committee met Aug. 18 to vote on accepting a $50 donation from Katherine Slack in memory of her son and husband, approving budget transfers totaling $180,000 ($125,000 from the 5000 to 4000 series, $55,000 from 5000 to 3000 series, and $0.02 from 5000 to 8000 series), and a hockey cooperative agreement. The treasurer's report listed FY26 warrants totaling $124,910.16 and FY27 warrants totaling $1,104,890.82. The committee also held executive sessions for personnel and litigation matters. Earlier that day, the Policy Subcommittee held an admissions policy reading.

Other recent meetings

The Milton Housing Authority on Aug. 11 voted on Warrant No. 6-2026 for $398,720.89 and a No Smoking Policy, and received reports on delinquency, vacancies, HUD Section 8 funding, and the Housing Choice Voucher program.

The Historical Commission met Aug. 11 to review demolition updates and Community Preservation Committee applications, and again Aug. 18 to discuss a letter regarding the proposed library generator site. Its Aug. 17 meeting was cancelled.

The Budget Coordination Committee met Aug. 18 to review the FY26 year-end closeout, annual calendar, and objectives for August through October.

The Climate Action Planning Committee met Aug. 20 to elect officers for the 2026-2027 term, receive an update from Energy Manager Kai Mueller, and discuss the finalization path for the Climate Action Plan.

Several Board of Appeals meetings (Aug. 13 and Aug. 17) and a Housing Production Plan Advisory Committee meeting (Aug. 12) were posted with no substantive agenda items.

Blue Hills Regional School Committee — July 21

The full School Committee agenda for July 21, 2026, includes several proposed votes:
