Council to weigh Lee Street rename, condos; recent board meetings await minutes

Los Altos boards met over the past two weeks, but none of the meetings have published minutes yet, so no decisions are reported. The most consequential action ahead is the City Council's Aug. 25 meeting, where it will consider renaming Lee Street to Tubman Street and approving two condominium projects.

Environmental Commission (Aug. 12)

The Environmental Commission met to approve minutes from prior meetings, receive a final report on the Residential Electrification Speaker Series, and hear an Arbor Day Proclamation presentation. The agenda was procedural, with no major decisions or public hearings. Public comment was limited to in-person or written submissions.

Financial Commission (Aug. 17)

The Financial Commission accepted the city's investment portfolio report for the quarter ending March 31, 2026, and received a presentation on a peer-cities financial benchmarking project with a recommended KPI dashboard. It also reviewed the city's unclaimed funds policy and provided input on focus areas for the FY 2025/26 annual audit.

Parks, Arts, Recreation & Cultural Commission (Aug. 18)

The commission gave staff input on the McKenzie Pickleball Project, selected artwork for the Community Center Gallery, and received updates from the Playground Ad Hoc and Mosaic Bench Working Pair. It also approved minutes from the June 16 special meeting.

Upcoming meetings

City Council (Aug. 25)

The council will hold a public hearing on a resident petition to rename Lee Street to Tubman Street, with options to approve the rename or forward it to the Historical Commission. It will also vote on two vesting tentative maps: one for 19 condominium units at 349 First Street, and one for 33 condominium units at Sherwood and Acacia Avenues. The council will consider contracts with Diablo Roofing Inc. for a History Museum roof replacement, not-to-exceed $169,625, and with Bockmon & Woody Electric Co. for Maintenance Yard EV chargers, not-to-exceed $417,703. It will also discuss the Joint Volunteer Awards Committee.

The council will also hold a closed session to confer with legal counsel about one anticipated litigation case. No public action is expected.

Complete Streets Commission (Aug. 26)

The commission will discuss modifying no-stopping signs along Carmel Terrace and Altamead Drive, and review a proposal to move the crosswalk at N. San Antonio Road and Pasa Robles Avenue closer to Sherwood Avenue to install Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons. It will also review the 2026 Work Plan and general reports on ongoing work items.

Los Altos boards review housing, health expo, library closure plans

Over the past two weeks, Los Altos advisory boards and commissions met to review housing proposals, a senior health expo, library closure preparations, and an electrification program. No final decisions have been published; all recent meetings were agenda-only, with minutes not yet released.

Planning Commission weighs two multifamily projects

On Aug. 6, the Planning Commission held public hearings for two residential developments. The first is a design review and vesting tentative map for a six-story, 19-unit building at 349 First Street. The second is a three-story, 33-unit townhome project at 966, 988, and 994 Sherwood Avenue and 987, 994, and 1005 Acacia Avenue. The commission also approved minutes from its June 18 meeting. No votes were recorded in the agenda.

Zoning Administrator hears Hillview Avenue addition

On Aug. 5, the Zoning Administrator held a public hearing for SC25-0009, a request by Keith Gordon for an 857-square-foot addition to a single-story home at 108 Hillview Avenue. The meeting also included approval of July 15 minutes. Public comment was accepted in person or in writing; remote participation was not offered, though remote viewing was available.

Senior Commission finalizes health expo

The Senior Commission met Aug. 3 to finalize logistics for the Live Well Age Well Health Expo, scheduled for Sept. 15, 2026. The commission also discussed its transition to the Senior Services Committee and approved minutes from June 1.

Library Commission prepares for closure

On Aug. 6, the Library Commission discussed preparations for a library closure and a potential commission event. It received reports from the Santa Clara County Library District and Main Library staff, and approved minutes from May 7. The agenda was largely informational, with no substantive decisions listed.
