Lawrence County bans open burning, sets 2027 budget
Lawrence County commissioners on July 30 adopted emergency fire hazard regulations banning open burning and approved the 2027 provisional budget, among other actions. The board also approved a new all-way stop, a subdivision plat, and a conditional use permit.
Fire restrictions and budget
The commission unanimously adopted Resolution #2026-19, which bans open burning and restricts fire-related activities due to wildfire threats. The board also set the 2027 provisional budget, which includes a 3% cost-of-living raise and a 10% increase in health insurance costs. Both measures passed unanimously.
Roads and subdivisions
Commissioners approved an all-way stop at Maitland Road and McDermott Road, also unanimously. They authorized signing of the Spearfish Plat for the Maitland Vistas subdivision and approved a Memorandum of Agreement and a $499,787.13 Letter of Credit for the Hidden Pines Subdivision. Both actions were unanimous.
Other decisions
The board adopted Resolution #2026-20 supporting state funding for county roads and bridges, approved Conditional Use Permit #501 for Mile High Construction/Root Wellness, and canvassed the 2026 Primary Runoff Election results. All votes were unanimous.
Other recent meetings
Three other county boards met in early August, but their minutes have not yet been published.
