Goleta meetings yield no published decisions; condominium project ahead

No decisions have been published from Goleta's recent city meetings, as minutes from the past two weeks are not yet available. The most consequential item on the agenda was the City Council's public hearing on a proposed amendment to the Camino Real Specific Plan, which would align the plan with the 2023 Santa Barbara Airport Land Use Compatibility Plan. The Planning Commission is also set to decide on a 59-unit condominium project on August 24.

The board reviewed four development proposals: signage for Cottage Medical Clinics at 444 S Patterson Avenue; a Chevron automatic carwash at 6895 Hollister Ave; an AT&T telecommunications facility disguised as a 50-foot faux water tower at 290 Ellwood Canyon Rd; and a Goleta Self Storage project at 7780 Hollister Ave. The board was scheduled to make recommendations on design and environmental findings, with some items to be forwarded to the Planning Commission or Zoning Administrator for final approval.

City Council (Aug. 12)

The council met in closed session to discuss anticipated litigation over the city's approval of a business license for the relocation of Goodland Guns to 7443 Hollister Avenue. No open-session decisions were scheduled.

City Council (Aug. 18)

The council held a public hearing on whether to initiate an applicant-requested amendment to the Camino Real Specific Plan (Case No. 26-0001-SP). The consent calendar included a $500,000 agreement with Ingram Library Services LLC for library materials, a $209,670 increase to UNICO Engineering for the San Jose Creek Multipurpose Path Project, an $85,000 agreement with the Corporation for Supportive Housing to update the Homelessness Strategic Plan, and authorization to advertise bids for the Ellwood Mesa Trail Erosion Repair Project.

Planning Commission reviews Anthem Church campus project

On June 22, the Planning Commission held a public hearing to consider a two-lot parcel map and conditional use permits for a new community assembly facility and parking lot improvements at 6595 Covington Way. The project, associated with Anthem Church, also includes amendments to a development plan and adoption of a Notice of Exemption. The commission also planned to approve meeting minutes from April 27 and June 8, 2026. The meeting was an agenda-only item; minutes have not yet been published, so no final decision is recorded.

Design Review Board considers residential community at 7360 Hollister Avenue

On June 23, the Design Review Board conducted a conceptual and preliminary design review for a new residential community at 7360 Hollister Avenue (Case No. 25-0001-SUB, 25-0003-DP, 25-0018-DRB). The board also reviewed its June 9, 2026, meeting minutes. As with the Planning Commission meeting, the board’s discussion was agenda-only, and no decisions have been published.
