Glendale Council weighs sales tax and charter changes; no decisions yet

Glendale city officials spent the past two weeks considering a quarter-cent sales tax measure and several City Charter amendments for the November 3, 2026 ballot, but no final decisions have been made. All recent meetings were agenda-only, with minutes not yet published, so the items remain proposals for now.

Ballot measure and charter amendments

The City Council discussed placing a 0.25% supplemental transactions and use tax on the November ballot at its July 28 meeting and again at a special meeting on July 30. The tax would fund public safety and city services. The council also reviewed proposed charter amendments covering civil service rules, fund accounting, and term limits and compensation for the City Clerk and City Treasurer.

At an August 4 special meeting, the council considered declaring a fiscal emergency and formally placing the tax measure on the ballot.
