Ector County to adopt FY 2026-27 budget and tax rate on Aug. 25
The Ector County Commissioners' Court is scheduled to adopt the FY 2026-2027 budget and tax rate at its Aug. 25 meeting, following public hearings. The court also considered a range of other items at its Aug. 11 and Aug. 18 meetings, and the Juvenile Board met on Aug. 10. No decisions have been released yet for the recent meetings; minutes are pending.
Commissioners' Court: Aug. 11 and Aug. 18
On Aug. 11, the court considered a proposed 2026-2027 tax rate and scheduling public hearings for the tax rate and budget. It also considered a child safety fee of up to $1.50 on motor vehicle registrations, an owner contingency of up to $400,000 for the Coliseum Buildings B & C renovation, acceptance of a $10,000 TX Reads grant for a library program, and a bid package for ARPA 3rd Street Water Line Improvements.
On Aug. 18, the court considered the proposed FY 2026-2027 budget for all county officials and departments, along with potential adjustments, tabled items, policy matters, and long-range planning. Public comments on non-agenda items were received.
Juvenile Board: Aug. 10
The Juvenile Board met to review and approve the quarterly report for the Ector County Youth Center for the period ending June 30, 2026, the Texas Juvenile Justice Department State Aid Budget and Salary Adjustment Grant for FY '27, local budgets for FY '27, and the salary of the Director of Juvenile Services. The board also considered budget line-item transfers totaling $2,973, including $2,940 to Uniform Supplies and $33 to Detention Supplies. An update on the new Juvenile Justice Center was on the agenda.
Bail Bond meeting postponed
The Aug. 19 Bail Bond meeting was postponed indefinitely. No items were discussed or decided.
Coming up: Aug. 25 Commissioners' Court
The court will hold public hearings and consider adopting the FY 2026-2027 budget and tax rate. The agenda also includes awarding an RFP for inmate communication, commissary, and mail services to Prodigy Solutions, Inc., awarding a bid for seal coat aggregate to Tellus Services and Capital Aggregate Inc., approving a $6,000,000 budget amendment for a new building capital project, and approving a lease agreement with Dell Technologies for 11 rugged units at $9,967.79 annually.
