Doral council agendas: baseball field settlement, insurance, budget on tap
The Doral City Council met twice in the past two weeks, with agendas that included a proposed settlement over a baseball field at Doral Legacy Park, a new building permit fee schedule, a state grant for police overtime, and a vote on the city's insurance provider. The Local Planning Agency also met to consider a rezoning and comprehensive plan changes. No decisions have been confirmed, as minutes have not yet been published.
Council meeting (Aug. 12)
The council's agenda included a settlement agreement with Wannemacher Jensen Architects and Kimley-Horn over litigation regarding the baseball field at Doral Legacy Park. The council also considered a new simplified, tiered flat fee schedule for building permits to comply with Florida House Bill 399. A $750,000 state grant for Doral Police overtime during presidential and dignitary events was on the agenda, along with a $61,000 grant from Miami-Dade TPO for a Doral Arts District Adaptive Re-Use Master Plan. Pilot programs for smart parking/dynamic signage and SafetyStick prohibited parking enforcement technology were also listed. The agenda included numerous other consent items and discussion items.
Local Planning Agency (Aug. 12)
The Local Planning Agency held public hearings on two items: a rezoning request for a 1.5-acre property at 2500 NW 107 Avenue from Industrial to Corridor Commercial for EMRE Tuna Investment LLC, and a set of comprehensive plan amendments addressing multiple elements including resiliency, land use, transportation, housing, and infrastructure. The amendments also included new Private Property Rights and Economic Development elements, and an update to the Water Supply Facilities Work Plan. The agency will recommend approval, denial, or no recommendation to the City Council.
Council Workshop (Aug. 21)
The council held a workshop to discuss the proposed budget for fiscal year 2026-27. The only substantive item was a presentation and discussion of the budget, sponsored by the City Manager. No votes or decisions were scheduled; this was a discussion-only meeting.
Special Council Meeting (Aug. 21)
The council held a special meeting with a single substantive item: Resolution 26-6749, approving UnitedHealthcare as the city's health, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and ancillary benefits, effective October 1, 2026. The resolution would authorize the city manager to execute documents and expend budgeted funds, subject to city attorney approval. Public comments were heard before the discussion and vote.
