DeSoto County boards set agenda for budget, rezoning, flood variance
DeSoto County's Board of Supervisors and Board of Adjustment have several items on their agendas this week, including the county's FY27 budget, a major rezoning request, and a floodplain variance. However, minutes from these meetings have not yet been published, so no decisions have been confirmed.
Board of Supervisors
The Board of Supervisors held three meetings in the past two weeks, all with draft agendas subject to change.
Aug. 10: FY27 budget
The board met at 8 a.m. to consider the FY27 budget. The rest of the agenda consisted of routine procedural items.
Aug. 17: Rezoning and planning items
The board held public hearings on several rezoning and subdivision requests, including:
- Rezoning 72 acres from A-R to PUD (Creek Stone, Craft Rd & Bethel Rd)
- Amending a rezoning for a 951-acre PUD (Short Fork Farms, Holly Springs Rd & Getwell Rd)
- Rezoning 100.97 acres from A to PUD (Vaiden Hills, Vaiden Rd & Anderson Ln)
The board also heard an appeal of a denial for a telecommunication tower conditional use at 1495 Horn Lake Rd, and considered approval of multiple grants, including MS Office of Hwy Safety and DOJ Edward Byrne grants.
Aug. 21: Recycling site, purchases, budget
The board considered a request for an additional recycling location at Southaven Intermediate School, as well as several purchases over $25,000 for replacement firewalls (IT), drainage piping (Agri-Ed), and playground and tennis courts (Agri-Ed). The board also considered a memorandum of understanding with DeSoto County Schools for the Agri-Education Center, and the FY27 budget.
Board of Adjustment
Aug. 10: Floodplain variance
The Board of Adjustment will consider a variance request from Brandon Gustafson to exempt a property at 4720 Bolin Rd. from the county floodplain ordinance. The property is north of Bolin Rd. and west of Holly Springs Rd., parcel #30762301000003000, Section 23 Township 3 Range 7, zoned A (District 5). The board will also approve minutes from its July 13, 2026 meeting.
