Calumet County Highway Committee approves 2027 fee increases; other boards act on permits, rates

The Calumet County Highway Committee unanimously approved 2027 permit fee increases of 2–4% and an updated manure distribution policy at its Aug. 12 meeting, the most consequential decisions among recent county meetings. Highway Committee

At its Aug. 12 meeting, the Highway Committee voted unanimously to:

• Approve the Functional Class Update Resolution.

• Approve 2027 permit fee increases of 2–4%.
• Approve an updated Manure Distribution in Right of Way Policy.

Planning, Zoning and Farmland Preservation Committee

The committee met Aug. 13 and unanimously approved a conditional use permit for Derek and Kelsey Jacobs to operate a farm market at W3451 Green Drive in the Town of Woodville, in the Exclusive Agricultural district. It also approved its agenda and the minutes from the June 11 meeting. The committee discussed proposed amendments to Chapter 62 (Land Division Ordinance) but took no action.

Health & Human Services Board

The board met Aug. 17 and unanimously approved the 2026–2027 Public Health Rates. It also approved the meeting agenda and the minutes from the July 13 meeting. The 2027 Health and Human Services Budget was presented for discussion but no action was taken.

County Board (agenda only)

The County Board met Aug. 18, but minutes have not yet been published. Its agenda included four resolutions: a budget amendment to accept a $1.5 million EPA Coalition Assessment Grant (increasing expenditures and revenues by $300,000), a $28,000 sales tax expenditure to repair the reverse osmosis system at Calumet County Park, approval of changes to rural functional road classifications, and authorization to apply for a Clean Boats Clean Waters grant from the Wisconsin DNR. The board also considered appointing Sara Cardinal to the Fox Valley Workforce Development Board for a term ending June 30, 2029.

Administrative Services Committee (agenda only)

The committee met Aug. 11 and considered two budget amendments: $28,000 for the park water repair and $300,000 for the EPA grant. It also received updates on the courthouse remodel, ERP payroll, hiring, tax foreclosures, and properties acquired through foreclosure. No decisions were reported.

Board of Canvass

The Board of Canvass met twice: Aug. 18 to certify the Aug. 11 partisan primary results, and Aug. 20 to amend that certification. Both meetings were procedural, with the board to submit official copies to the Wisconsin Elections Commission. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 10 at 9:00 AM.

Coordinated Services Team (agenda only)

The CST Coordinating Committee met Aug. 18. The agenda included a guest speaker with lived experience, an enrollment report, an update on the Children's System of Care Self Assessment Tool, and planning for the 2026–27 school year. No decisions were reported.

Calumet County committees weigh hazmat plan, 2027 budgets, park repairs

Calumet County boards met this week to consider a countywide hazardous materials plan, 2027 budget items, and park repairs, but no final decisions have been published. All five meetings this week were agenda-only, with minutes not yet available. The most consequential item on the table was the Local Emergency Planning Committee's proposed approval of the Countywide Comprehensive Strategic (Hazmat) Plan.

Emergency planning

The Local Emergency Planning Committee met Aug. 5 with an agenda that included electing a chair and vice chair, reviewing and approving the committee's by-laws, and reviewing and approving the Countywide Comprehensive Strategic (Hazmat) Plan. Members also were scheduled to review offsite planning for the 2026 Plan of Work and a summary of 2026 spill incidents (closed incidents). The meeting was open to the public.

Budget and public safety

The Public Safety Committee met Aug. 5 to discuss departmental reports and budget planning. The agenda included a review of proposed budgetary items for 2027, a hiring update from the Sheriff, and a report from the Jail Administrator.

Parks and conservation

The County Parks Commission met Aug. 6 to consider a resolution for a budget amendment to repair the R.O. system. The commission also discussed Brillion Conservation Club's boat landings on Becker Lake, Boot Lake, and Round Lake, and received an Eagle Scout Project presentation by Aric Hoffmeyer. Updates were given on Ledge View Nature Centers remodeling and campground expansions, including additional campsites and water for West and Northend sites.

The Land and Water Conservation Committee also met Aug. 6. Its agenda included a resolution authorizing a Clean Boats Clean Water Grant application (action needed), a discussion on the 2027 budget, and the introduction of Paul Tollard as Land Resource Specialist. The committee also noted a Private Well Testing Day on Aug. 17 with bottle pickup on Aug. 10, 12, and 13, and that Gabriel Huitema will start as Soil Health Specialist/Agricultural Educator on Aug. 11.

Aging and disability services

The Aging and Disability Resource Center Advisory Committee met Aug. 3. The agenda included a presentation on New Hope Center, Inc. programs by Greg Logemann, a DOT approval letter regarding the Title VI Plan, 2027 5310 Applications for Operating Assistance and Vehicle Capital, Nutrition Program participation data for January–June 2026, and Act 115 Next of Kin Decision Making.

The Board of Canvass will meet Aug. 18 at 9:00 AM to open and publicly examine the returns of the Aug. 11, 2026 Partisan Primary Election. The board will complete and sign the certification of election results for local filing and submit an official copy to the Wisconsin Elections Commission. Calumet County's advisory boards and committees met last week to review financial updates, youth development programming, and veterans services. Health & Human Services Board — July 13
