Westland TIFA Board Approves $437,700 in Vouchers; City Council to Vote on Park and Police Software Contracts

The Westland Tax Increment Finance Authority approved $437,700.15 in TIFA/BRA vouchers during its July 14 meeting, the largest financial decision among recent city government actions. The board also approved several renovation and landscaping contracts and re-elected its leadership.

EDC/TIFA/BRA Board

On July 14, the board approved the June 9 minutes (motion carried, Scott and West abstained) and TIFA/BRA vouchers totaling $437,700.15 (unanimous). It also approved a City Hall renovation proposal up to $46,214.89 (Scott abstained), Highland Landscape & Snowplowing dead-plant replacement up to $45,505 (unanimous), Highland Landscape & Snowplowing mulch replacement up to $9,000 (unanimous), and a K&B Asphalt parking-lot repair up to $37,835 (unanimous). Scott Catallo was re-elected Chair and James Allen re-elected Vice Chair, both unanimously.

City Council

The City Council's July 6 agenda included a public hearing and proposed amendments to the Tax Increment Finance Authority (TIFA) Plan, as well as a proposed Collective Bargaining Agreement for Westland Professional Fire Fighter Local 1279 (2025-2030). The agenda also listed several proposed purchases: 10 police vehicles (4 marked, 6 investigator) not to exceed $535,000; one ambulance not to exceed $310,811; a motor grader ($87,000) and a Ford Explorer ($54,997.48) for Public Service. Westland roundup: City Council set to weigh firefighter contract, TIFA amendments, and nearly $1 million in vehicle purchases

Westland DDA approves facade grants, restaurant attraction policy

The Westland Downtown Development Authority (DDA) last week approved two facade improvement grants totaling up to $41,437 and adopted a new Restaurant Attraction Grant Policy. The decisions came during the board’s June 25 meeting.

DDA approves facade grants, restaurant policy

The DDA voted unanimously to award a facade grant of up to $16,437 for Smoler Smiles and a grant of up to $25,000 for 240 North Wayne Road (one member abstained on the latter). The board also unanimously adopted a Restaurant Attraction Grant Policy aimed at supporting new dining businesses downtown. Other approved items included $147,200.39 in vendor vouchers, a $20,000 contract with Modern Consulting LLC, and funding for Municipal Service Bureau special events — all by unanimous votes except for two abstentions on the May 28 meeting minutes.
