Needville council reviews budget, weighs tax rate and hearings
The Needville City Council held three regular meetings over the past two weeks, all devoted to reviewing the proposed fiscal year 2026-2027 budget and related financial items. Budget review sessions
On August 10 and August 11, the council met to review the proposed FY 2026-2027 budget. Both meetings listed the budget as the only substantive item, with the August 11 session also including a citizen comment period limited to three minutes per speaker. No action was listed on either agenda.
Public hearings and tax rate proposal
At its August 17 meeting, the council took up a broader set of items. The agenda included two public hearings: one on the 2025 Annual Drinking Water Quality Report and another on the Water and Wastewater Impact Fee Audit Report. The council also considered Resolution R-26-14, which would adopt a proposed 2026 tax rate, and discussed scheduling public hearings on the FY 2026-2027 budget and the 2026 property tax rate.
A variance request for the Magnolia Trails subdivision monument sign height and location was also on the agenda.
Other items discussed
Beyond the budget and tax items, the August 17 agenda included discussion of a wastewater treatment plant assessment, a downtown redevelopment scope, and a possible 17-acre commercial development agreement. The council also entered executive session for legal, real estate, and economic development matters. Routine items such as meeting minutes and monthly reports were listed as well.
